Most of us remember when having Pyle factory replacements was considered par de cors for having an excellent system. But, times have changed. We've seen the dominance of MB Quart, emergence of RF and JL in the non-sub speaker world and the evolution of several other company's craftsmanship.
Which brands seem to be the big dogs in '99 - '00? Canton and Focal seem to be gettin' pretty high marks. Alpine? Audiobahn? Crossfire? Infinity/JBL? The list could go on and on.
HORNS!! (yep, outta my mouth!) Can you say VERITAS????????
Components: Oz 180CS, Canton!, and for some reason (I dont like them...) ID Chameleons, well, that list for high end stuff. Too much low end stuff to try to fit it all in here....
Subs: Oz Matrix 250L, Perinnial favorite!! Something tells me RF 8's too though (Dukk?)
OH yeah, Ber, I remember when my ex brother in law had just bought his '87 LeBaron... had the factory Infinity system yanked, and in went the SoundStream Head Unit!! And the D30 amp, and the Pyle 5x7 rears!!!

Sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side.
Use your ears to judge components, NOT your wallet! K.I.S.S.
Oz is and always will be one of my favorite companies, but JTI is and always will be NOT NOT NOT one of my favorite companies.. Nuff said?
Focal, of course, but they make QUALITY, and thats what upper end car audio is all about.. illusion is the new quart, IMO, as people realize that having tweeters that liquefy your ears is NOT hi-fi.
Hmmm.. Those veritas horns won't take over the world, but they might be taking over my truck.. backed up by oz, though !
Rockford will phase out in the next ten years and be considered a "lower end" brand, much like I think of most PPI now.
Hmm.. Speakers.. I'd like to see a nice ribbon driver that could stand up to a car, now THAT would make a soundstage!

Actually I don't know who makes the drivers on my Veritas- I've looked at Radian, P-Audio, B&C Speakers, and a few more, but I still can't find those stinking drivers anywhere.
How much did I pay for my Veritas? Mmm, I can't really tell you that. But I can say that my dealer made it worth my while to buy them (cheaper than used sets of other horns). For the aluminum Veritas, I would be looking at upper $500-mid $600 range. They have injected horn like the USDs and IDs that is much cheaper. If there isn't a dealer in your area call Veritas and see what they can do. Bill Bibb will make sure you are happy- kind of like an east coast version on ID (which is a huge compliment on my part).
They (the Veritas) are heavy! With each horn weighing in a tad over 10 pounds.
Dukk- there is never a such thing as too much power...muhahahah muahahah. (for those who have met me, this will explain why I will be deaf the next time you meet me...)
A 2.2 on each set of speakers is just about right...until I can get a 2.2 on each speaker..oh my!
I should have the horns in and playing next weekend, and see what my ported SQ box can do on the meter...

Are you talking about the Illusion horns or the component tweeters. Haven't had the chance to listen to the horns yet, but the tweeters in my component set didn't seem to liquify my ears, at least after I moved the tweeter level jumpers from +8dB to flat.
I was referring to the hi-fi company that I feel Illusion is slowly chopping down, Quart... Quart, maker of the tweeters that "liquefy your ears". I got in a car at SBN outside the Outback Steakhouse and this guy has the Quart Reference components, mounted in kicks, with pretty big power on them... And the ******d had the TREBLE set to +4 on his deck.. I almost urinated myself when it first came on... WAY, WAY too disgusting for me.. However, the many Illusion vehicles I heard impressed me a great deal with the almost smooth sound to the tweeter- I still want a good company to do a deal with Seas of Norway so that they can use the Seas SONO-Tex material... Hoo-boy.

Dukk- Do you disagree with me on the RF thing? I know you're a staunch RF supporter, and I like the equipment, have it in my own truck.. However, the company's "aura" or whatever just doesn't scream "good stuff" or "upper shelf" anymore, but RF's making a LOT more money.. Thats a trade-off that as a money-hungry corporate type I would accept.. But as a moderately well educated and typically picky american consumer, I just can't. Thats why you find the old POWER .1 series and ArtSeries amps in my truck

Ok I see what you meant. The way I first read it sounded like you meant Illusion was the new brand with horrible screeching tweets. I haven't thought of Quart as HiFi for a while, the scenario you described is somewhat common. I don't know if it is because some people already have started to lose their hearing in the upper frequencies. It seemed when I was in high school that the people with very loud subs tended to prefer Quart tweets. I will also give my opinion on the RF debate. I also don't view RF as a high end brand anymore. The same with PPI and Soundstream, JL doesn't seem high end either. I don't think the products from the companies have gone down any, it is just that the competition caught up and I haven't seen any innovative products from these companies. Hopefully the W7 is as innovative as they say, and I would love to see Soundstream get its act together and start putting out some product that is reliable and high quality instead of packaging the same thing in a limited edition sculpture.

They (RF, PPI, etc.) still make incredible equipment, as stated above, and I must agree that the others out there are catching up. This is great, for those of us on a budget Get good/great equipment at a nice price.
I too would love to see Orion and SS back in the innovator's drivers seat. I like those new HCCA subs .
