I posted this message in the Sub & Enclosure forum earlier, guess I was in the wrong place there

Last week I bought the Infinity Kappa 652.1cs and the Infinity Beta Digital 100 amplifier for my front stage.
I am going to install the Kappa's in the doors or make kickpanels, depending on how large the kickpanels would have to be. Does anybody know what a good size is for this speaker when making kickpanels?

I was also wondering: how do you test your speaker positioning and aiming? Should I make a temporary enclosure or something along that line?

Regards,
Ben.

kickpanels i would say the larger the better, even then, the largest isn't very big anyhow... 5Litres max (most of the tme)

testing... try sticky tape it into place for aiming them.. or anything that you can quicky adjust.. aiming of the tweets is usally more important

goodluck

Hrm, kick panels....Tech!! Audiophyle!! they'd be the dudes I'd ask (Dukk if yu wanna port 'em ), plus nearly everyone else on the board has some pretty darn good exp and advice fer them thar kickpanels.

I'd personally do doors (I need the extra cumfy left-foot room fer m'knees), but that's me, so...me shut up now on that.

As for positioning the speakers, I concur with Jimbo, use tape and someone else to holdthe speakers in position while you listen. Also, make a makeshift enclosure for the mids and try them at different angles, location, etc.

Nice equip, best of luck dude!!!

For kickpanels, you can use a small set of computer speakers to get the basic aiming down (a side note, Boston Acoustics makes a hell of a iddy biddy smally wally computer speaker that really plays well!). Anyway, use the computer speakers, and the head unit to power them (so you dont blow them so easily) and velcro or duKK tape or silly putty, or bubble gum or rubber cement, or whatever sticky substance you have laying around, and just goof around with aiming them. Once you get the image where you want it, (dont be surprised how long it can take!) take measurements of angling and everything else you can, then build your kicks, trying to keep to those guidelines. You may want to build in a little bit of adjustment into the tweeter mounting of the kickpanels, you will more than likely still have to futz with the tweet aiming after installing the kicks. Most tweets can be swivel mounted, so that should prove to not be a problem either. If you need anything else, let us know! As to your sizing question, unless you have the t/s specs for them, I wouldnt be too concerned about building enclosures for them.

I emailed Infinity about this one, they said:
"The size of the enclosure for that speaker used with a crossover is pretty unimportant. It should be larger than 1/6th of a cubic foot."
For the "US Measure" challenged among us like me, 1/6 of a cubic foot means a 5 liter enclosure.

Audiophyle - isn't a kickpanel always an enclosure? Or did you mean just make the part that's visible and leave the back open? I was concerned that doing that I wouldn't get a whole lot of midbass from the speakers...

Regards,
Ben.

Yes, I meant to just leave the back open, but make sure the front wave is sealed off from the back wave. If you need to augment your midbass, you can always add a pair of 6.5's in the doors and roll 'em off lower. Those infinity's should work well in the kicks!

To posistion your speakers. I would first make the speaker baffle and screw your speakers to it. Then use pipe straps screwed to the back of the enclosure to posistion the speaker and baffle where you want it. Then you can fiberglass the speakers in place. Good luck
