Everyone seems to love this combo...but I'm a little confused. The DD is $94.95 each and the Vifa XT is $60 each (from partsexpress.com). So that's about $310 without any crossovers. Now, I could just get the Adire Koda 6.1s for $299 (pre-order on from ampmanaudio.com). How good is this Vifa/DD combo? I know it's going to be hard to compare it to the Adire component set since they're not out yet, but it just seems to make more sense to spend $3-400 on a component set instead of making your own.

The DDW6.5 won't cost that much. Take off 20% for DD's sale, or whatever they call it. Also, the set does sound great, but in my car at least the DD mid has a little too much upper midrange. It used to be fine when I had my EQ, as I could just tone it down, but now without an eq it bothers me. You may be able to avoid that problem using a crossover structure that cuts the DD pretty good in the 1-3 kHz area. If it was me starting over, I'd run the XT25s down to 2500 Hz cutoff at 12 db/octave the the mids up to 1 kHz, with a 6 or 12 db/octave lowpass on them. That would cut the mids nicely at 2 kHz and avoid the peak I have. But, in your vehicle its hard to tell, maybe it won't have that peak. All in all, they are really a great set. If you can, run separate amps to the mids and tweets, and actively cross them over so you can play with the crossover frequencies.
