i have a set of these or at least a set thats real close but they are coax. 5.25 + tweeter and the music comp x-overs. i dont know the actual model number bought these off ebay for $100 total and been sitting so..now the tweeter is on a bridge and wired seperate from the 5.25 so it can be mounted seperate if desired. i need to know are these 4 ohm speakers? or are they 4 ohm speakers when wired up thru the x-over? i could just measure them but i dont have a decent DMM.
the music comp has a way to bi amp or to just run the set off of one channel. i have a pro-mos 25 so i want to try and get the impedance down to take advantage of the amp. i would like to wire the tweeter and the mid in parallel to hopefully get close to a 2 ohm load assuming the mid and tweet are each 4 ohms.
can i do this? im thinking about pulling the tweeter off and mounting it in the sail panels on my car with the 5.25 in the kick panel. i dunno iw ill try it with the tweet still on the bridge and see what sounds best. i have a set of quarts but they are the discus line. with the qm 19hc? tweeters?i upgraded the tweeters. i think they were like $200 alone for the pair at the time. i think its been alot of years since i bought them.
anyway im curious about the wiring scheme here. im sure its a simple thing but sometimes we make things difficult for ourselves .

I used to have a very similar set, they are indeed 4 ohms. They are 4 ohms if wired separately without the x-over, and they sum to 4 ohms if both are run on the same channel with the x-over.

The problem is that they ALREADY are in parallel when used with the x-over. The thing is that for frequencies below the x-over point of the tweeter, the amp sees a very high impedance from the x-over and vice versa for the woofer. So while their AVERAGE impedance for the tweet and woofer is not 4 ohms, when in parallel the two units sum together to present a 4 ohm load. You will need to actively bi-amp those if you want to get an advantage over a passive x-over.

ok makes good sesne if i was to bi-amp wire and basically wire the 2 sets of terminals going into the x-over in parallel what would this achieve? anything different from the standard x-over wiring?
so i have a set of high ins and a set of low ins if i set the jumper to bi-wire and then parallel the high and low inputs to one amp channel? anything different or will i still be back to square one?

Forget about getting a 2 ohm load fropm those speakers. That's not what they were designed for. You might as well toss out the crossover if you intend on doing that. Wire the speakers from the amp to the Low in, Low out to the woofer, high out to the tweeter. Get another amp if you want more power.
