I'm getting ready to buy a new component set and my head unit and future signal processor (ERA-G320 in about a week)Are alpines. But I would like some opinions on the alpine dddrive components (5 1/4) vs. the focal polykevlar line (130K). I know I can get the alpines alot cheaper, and look nice with all of my other alpine equipment......but would it be worth the little extra money to get the focals?????? Any opinions???

If you're set on Alpines, I suggest the line
1 level lower than the DDDrives. I don't like
the DDDrive midrange.

Although I think the Focals will be better, you will be happy with the Alpines provided
they're not the DDDrives.

What have you found wrong with the midwoofer on the alpine DDDRIVE comps? Poor response? Poor SQ?

Speaker selection is entirely subjective. I do not recommend purchasing ANY speaker system without careful auditioning first, not matter how superb I think they are (and I do think the Focal are superb).
Trust your ears! It doesn't matter what I, or anyone else thinks of the speakers, except YOU!

I think we all agree with Autofile. Trust your ears. The focals are probably the better the better speaker, but then again I've heard $80/pair speakers that sounded better to me than $200/pair speakers. Also, a lot will depend on what kind of signal and power you're sending them. Being that you're 100% alpine, your signal should be pretty clean and have enough power.

BiGCheifTP,

sorry I took so long between posts, but I just don't care much for the way the mid sounds on the DDDrive set. The tweet is very
nice, though. It has a hollow sound. I've
heard them in differenct applications. I'm not an installer so I didn't do the installs.

I still think the Alpines SPS comps are overall better even though they are cheaper
than the DDDrives, just based on what I've heard.

I say this even though using DDDrives didn't
seem to bother Steve Brown at the last finals.

That said, I agree with everyone else that listening to speakers are objective and different people will prefer different characteristics.

I just might go have a demonstration of the SPS components. I figure out of the ones i have to choose from, they should all sound great due to the great signal from the alpine equipment, and the clean high amp. thanks guys
