What is everyone using for Midbass? Speaker, enclosure, etc?
I'm currently using CV 6.5 coaxials crossed at 135hz - 600hz off an old Punch 40ix. No box, just mounted behind the grill. When the volume is turned up past 75%, amp gain set at 1/3, the speakers distort. The speakers are about a year old and have always done this when turned up.

Well in my car I will soon be using Illusion Nd-8 woofers.
But one of my favorite midbasses is the IDQ62. They play low and loud, and the 2 ohm impedance helps out, especially if you have a smaller amp like a Punch 40. I have used them to play as low as 50Hz with no problems. They do however need a properly prepared door because they are big and when they play loud it rattles the doors pretty easily.

I use 2 solobaric 8's in each door of my camaro. 200 watts a door of RF power, running 40-120hz. The doors are several layers of fiberglass and several layers of v-block. They rum really well, pulling the bass image up front. I can actually turn off my sub and still have convining bass, especially if I bypass th high pass, letting them play as low as they can. Just the door panels will do 133dB, I was pretty surprised. I'm a huge fan of using a large midbass for strong front bass presence. In one of my customers cars, we actully did a 10 in each door with 200 watts to each.

Teamweebee,

Say hi to Harry for me, if he's still there, been a while since I've been up that way. Glad to hear that y'all got the team up and running.

I've used the Orion 6.5" mid-bass before and was rather pleased. Currently I'm running factory, yuck!!, but might go with either Kappa 6.5 co-axials or CV Vega 6.5 co-axials. If I'm really lucky, I'll go with Vifa 6.5" mb, then put something in the dash for highs.

I like the idea of the solos in the door. I had put 8" Impulses in the doors for one of my college buds. It definately pounded and he was rather happy . Had I more time, I was going to take apart a set of Kenwood 10" 3-way Truck Boxes and mount the 10s in the "hatch" of the BII for mb, then run the mids and tweets into the rear panel 5x7 spot. Oh well .

Great question!! It's amazing how much of a difference a nice set of mid-bass drivers can make!!

L8rz,

UB
