I just got this amp 2 days ago, and i hooked it up today and got it working. I dont know if im adjusting the contorl wrong but 2 things are happeneing. A i have to turn the gain all the way up to even come close to matching the output of my memphis MD1000 1100w at 1ohm. The amp i have is 2500wat 1ohm so it should be more then tiwice as loud...at least ya know. i have the low pass crossover set to 50 and the high pass is off. i have 2 TDX diamonds dropped to a 1ohm load in the amp, is this not supposed to be put in the amp, im not getting it, i also keep blowing fuses like landmines. Im getting a circut breaker tommrrow, but am i missing something, should i be using high pass crossover and Intelli Q intead, im not very familiar with this amp so i dont know. Any input would be great. Thanks!

Mike

#1 turn your xover up to about 70

#2 your rca voltage to the amp sucks, try gettting it up to 8 volts

#3 put a battery or 2 near that amp

#4 why are you using fuses? if you must, use 300 amp fuse.

#5 use the hp setting for subsonic filter and when you have that on, you can adjust your Q as a boost on the range your have between your hp and your lp settings.

#6 how are you running your rca's?

#7 this amp loves 15 volts range, just so you know(if you have an alt that goes that high)

#8 make sure you are using dual 4 guage wires for power and ground, anything less and you are starving your amp.

#9 check your grounds to make sure you are getting a good ground.

#10 add a big 1/0 ground at your battery to the firewall to help the transfer of power thru that battery. ground all batteries (that you might have near the amp) with the same amount if not more run of power you have going out of it.

#11 make sure all your wires are connected at the speakers like its supposed to be and double check your ohm load. also, make sure you are using enough guage of speaker wire. use 12 guage to each speaker.

#12 check the settings on your deck or eq to make sure you have the bass where you want it, check to make sure the rca's are hooked up to the right outputs.

#13 if you use a line driver, dont go up to 12 volts, they dont like it, keep it around 6-8 volts.

#14 dont run 17 volts of power to this amp.

any more questions could be directed towards me here or my email,. hccafan@cableone.net or you can email john.wilson@directed.com .
i can help you set your q boost for comps as well. q boost is something you wanna stay away from unless you are burping.

his email:

I guess whats happening right noe is that i just got this big and powerful amp and it seems just as good as my old one and u seem to know alot more about orion so i want to see its potential. Here is my exact setup and situation. 1st off i have very limited funds for starters. I have a stock alternator which i hope soon to get rewound to handle at least 200 amp, its at 120 as of now. I have a die hard weather handler battery in a Mitsubishi galant 99, but i think i might upgrade to Optima, or Stinger if they will fit under my hood. I broke my leg in the middle of the summer so its sort of hard for me to get around so thats why i have low income and can get the correct supplies. From my battery to the fuse for about 8 inches i have 4awg wire, to a fuse (which is tommorrow being changed to a circut breaker) from then on i have 2awg too a distribution block about 16 ft away in my trunk. From this D block i have 2 4awg powers running to the amp, i have 2 separetly grounded ground wires in my car, 1 of which is 2awg with enough to cut off to fit in the slot, the other is 4awg and fits in nicely. I have all 12awg speaker wire from my diamonds, and ohm load is def correct cuz i checked again yesterday getting scared, and how else was ai drawing full power from a memphis MD1000 1100watts at 1ohm. I can usually take my HU up to volume 24 , but at 20 it seemed to be equal with that of the output of my old memphis. theres also a few switches i was concerned about, 1 of which is copy, slave, master.... i have it set to copy, another is 12, 24, or full, i have it set to 12....i have the low pass to 50..should i raise or take it down. I have hp off, u say i should use it, what should i take it too, with what Q boost should i use. Phase, should i go 180 or 0. right now tha gain is all the way up just for the subs to get going and im real dissapoointed because this amp supposed to be real crazy i heard... any suggesttions also for later on electrical upgrades...

Thanks mikey G

my reply:

#1 upgrade your battery to amp wire to bigger wire, 1 4 guage isnt enough even for 8 inches, change that to atleast 2 guage, one run of 1/0 would be great, put a battery in back and 2 guage will do fine.

#2 type of battery only works well if you only can deal with a limited amount of batteries. fro the price, 2 instate batteries in parrallel will outperform 1 optima.

#3 set your master/gain/copy switch to GAIN, cuz master and copy are for copying the signal in daisy chain mode and test results have proven loss of DB's doing that, so all mine are at GAIN and matched the voltage with a DMM.

#4 set the full/12/24 switch to 24, it is a db per octave crossover control, never hurts to have a steep slope!

#5 set the LP to 75 hertz

#6 set the HP to 30 hertz and turn it on, it acts as a subsonic filter.

#7 set the Q boost to 0 unless competing

#8 set the phase at 0 and try the 180, whichever you prefer for loudness will work.

#9 turn the gain at about 3/4 for right now and adjust to your liking, i do suggest getting a PG line driver or something of the sort, those can be had on ebay for about 50 bucks used considering the shops wanted 140 for them. you can do something other as well for line drivers. i trust the PG ones.

#10 a 60 amp fuse will NOT be even close to power this beast!!!!! this amps draws close to 290 amps at full tilt, so you would need 5 of those 60 amp fuses! you need about a 300 amp fuse or circuit breaker or run direct like mine.

#11 make sure your grounds are sufficient, and i do suggest using battery grease on all your grounding locations and battery terminals, cuz grease keeps out the oxidation, keeps it moist which keeps good conductivity, and helps with heat issues.

any more questions email me or hit me up in this forum, HCCAfan@cableone.net

the reason i posted his email here and posted my answers here guys are for others that are having problems with ANY amp that are similar to these. alot can be learned from others mistakes and hopefully this will help others from doing the same thing with any of these issues. This is not in any way to single out someone or to make them look less intelligent, this is honest to goodness help to anyone that is dealing with similar problems. some of these were just plain Orion amp tricks i have learned, and some of these are general tricks of the trade. Mainly with the power and ground and fuse issues, you wont see a top fuel funny car using 18 guage hose for a fuel line, why would you expect it from power wire? always match your grounds to the size your using for your power, if not bigger. any power wire out of a battery has to be accomidated by the same size if not bigger ground. electricity is a full circle.

hope this helps anyone needing help.

I gotta say HCCAfan you know ur ish man. I know im still running a ghetto ass battery and alt, but i got things running just as u said, i have 2 guage all around now, secured all grounds, used 11 guage speaker wire, those settings we discussed, and i know its not a full 2500watts but it is absolutly insane, my car just shudders when that amp shows its furry. Thanks alot for your help, and reply soon cause ill be able to walk in 12 days so i can put some money together and get 2 batts and i HO alt so things will be on there way.

Thanks buddy [Wink]

You're going to run that amp with an HC 15"? That was my same plans, how soon do you plan on getting that amp? Also, does HCCAfan sell those amps new or did he just sell you one that he had previously used?

I bought one NIB he had in the marketplace. I got it months ago the same day my HC arrived from RE. You can get them at www.onlinecarstereo.com for the best new price I have seen anywhere though.

Damn, sweet deal! I can get it for about $850 or so I guess, but that's still a ton of cash. I just purchased my new Avionixx AXA 440.4 for my components and then I'm working on purchasing my new components. I will be going from a DEI 1100d to an Orion 2500D, one hell of a sweet ass jump and I can't wait 'til the day that thing arrives at my door. When I see it in person I'm gonna **** my pants...

PS - I have nothing against my DEI 1100d, and it's been a great amp...but ****, it BARELY moves my damn RE HC 15"! I NEED SOME REAL POWER! [Big Grin]

What are you going to do with that order? [Smile] If you are selling let me know 1st. We may do this all over again [Smile] That amp was perfect also. The plastic was still sealed and everything was perfect. I wish I could sleep with that amp under my pillow every night.

ok [Big Grin] Let me know how it goes. I think I will play with mine a little as well. Haven't really messed around much with the settings on them yet. I didn't even know they had any kind of boast circuitry until I read your post [Embarrassed] (as if they really need one anyways [Wink] )
