how many ways are there to measure power. i thought it was done with ac voltage and amperage...

I find that hard to believe for group 31 batts. In 2006 Team Budweiser measured my 2 NSB G3100's in my van and they came up with 16,000 and it wasn't peak.

you also had about 40kW worth of amplifiers fighting for that power, large volume, and plenty of wire. not a single 12kW with subs that were reaching absolute maximum compression factor

With 8 5k amps for sure that 16k power is possible. But for one amp that's pretty impressive to get over 8k.

żes Geoff, 2 batts at least 16kW, one batt I got 10kW.
Jeff yes, more amps, more transformers, fets, so that means less overall impedance on the switching power supplies, but yes, a big amp should be the same as 2 half power smaller amps, normally the larger resistance on the PCB tracks and less wiring for the bigger amp is the reason it would be less louder.

Are you refering to the SD 12k that you got 10k from or the two 8000d's?
Batteries we're talking about are a group 31 12v battery like a stinger 2150, nsb90/ nsbg3100, powermaster g3100 etc.
Most power for us that's been tested out of the cactus elite 12 on a nsb G3100 out of an spl vehicle with car off has been 6200w @ 61hz and when a second group 31 battery was added power went to 8500w on the same amp. The Stetsom 14k did same power on same car same battery same impedance.
I'd be interested in seeing a comparison in power and spl against the elite 12 vs a soundigital 12k on a single group 31 battery. Hit up Ray and he'll love to do the test. May get some sales if it does more spl and more power then an elite 12. Posts: 1770 | From: elgin | Registered: Jan 2003

Didnt test with the 12kD yet, Im in canada and the bella is in NY, but Ill replace its amps asap. Once I return to USA we could arrange some testing, and Im pretty sure it would performe pretty good since is a bit more efficient than SD8000 and way more powerful, you also can burp down to 8V.
I use the HX400s.
Can you make a 1 ohm power resistor, sink it down in water and remake the test? This should give you some good info, like the max power you can get, regardless of box and freq, than you how the box effects on subs are changing the power mark.
Different amps, different reactions to the reactive loads though. Normally the diff is small.

The hx400 and odyssey 2150 being made by same company have been tested to be similar and also similar as the northstar G3100's that Ray has. So test should be pretty comparable to battery you have.
Doing the water test we can do but in our case with our enclosures and impedance rise and frequency it won't help us to show us power that we'll never be able to use. Everyone will want to know what the amp is capable of in real world conditions with a reactive load. And in our case under competition conditions with limited battery. Our test wouldn't be conclusive to what the amp is truly capable of but just what it can do with limited battery for spl application.
The test would be fair for it's application being tested for. Ray has various coil configurations to test so we can find where the amp has it's most efficient impedance with rise using just one battery.
Should be a good test and I bet the 12k would do very well

come on Murilo send ray an amp to test and put the results on the table for everyone to see, I gave him a 14k2d to show what it can do on two batteries, real world test..... he has already made a bench mark for the testing, he has shown the results of the cactus and stetsom, lets see what the sound digital does in the same application.......

Yeah Murilo, let me test the amp. I tested Steves 14k2d and put the results up. I use cactus, however, as you see the results for the 14k2d were obviously fair. The 14k2d put out alot of power!! I will test your amp fair and square as well.

Yet another amp test. I wonder how it is that whenever a company does a test, their amp comes out on top?
