Buy from people who have lots of positive feedback FOR SELLING, ask for shipping insurance and pay with Paypal if you can - they provide a refund if your seller decides to stiff you. Most of the time when people sell used amps usually it's sold as-is, meaning they have no obligation after they mail the item out, I've mailed a pretty high-end home theater receiver before just to have it broken by FedEx. Also most eBay sellers are NOT authorized dealers so even if you buy new stuff from them you may not get warranties.
I've bought/sold amps on eBay before without a problem.

like said above look for high feedbacks and you will not get a warranty, i've bought and sold amps and subs from ebay and haven't had any problems yet.

The Paypal buyer protection policy is absolutely useless. So long as the dirtbag that stiffs you pulls his new funds out of his account immediately upon receipt, there is nothing Paypal can or will do for you. I was scammed $600 last year along with a few others. We figured it out within about three days of sending money and filed the Paypal dispute immediately thereafter, thinking we'd still be in good shape. Turns out Paypal ****ing sucks and I didn't get a cent back.

i've bought car stuff on ebay before only one time i did get ripped was on little 3" speakers that were f***ed. but i feel that as far as the company,i.e maxxsonics, mtx, kenwood, etc., are concern alot of audio shops around my house are not authorized dealers. just check feedback besure its for selling, and read full description, ask your questions, and hope. use caution!

oh also check the amps out (google, here, other car audio site) for common problems or recalls because those might get pulled off shelves of authorized dealers but not ebay and the company won't help you or maybe charge you if you bought the amp unauthorized. almost got a Soundstream 3500 when they had problems that would have sucked.

you can get warranties on the amps, actually better than authorized.
Squaretrade offers 2year warranties for non-authorized new, refurbished, or used products. After warranty is up, just pay again to renew another 2yrs and so on.
Warranty cost is only 10% of selling price. If they can't fix it, they will give you a brand new one or if they can't, they will send you a check for the cost of the amp that you paid for it. Nothing bad about that.

Like anything bought on-line, call the product manufacturer first and ask them that if you buy it on E-Bay, will you have any factory warranty.
If they say no, you are asking for problems so then ask them if they have authorised on-line dealers. If they say yes, try to get an e-mail saying that.
