Here's the scoop on the problem. I have a Kicker ZX2500.1 When the amp has been on for a while it starts to get really really hot! Hot to the point you can't hardly touch it. It has shut off on me a few times also because of it. No I wasn't driving it hard either. The few times it went into protection I was listening to the radio at low volume with the sub gain turned all the way down (remote gain control). I had to turn the radio off and put the windows do to cool the amp off before it would come back on. Besides the fact it gets crazy hot, it functions just fine. Here's the best part, I called up Kicker and told them exactly what was going on, I sent it back to them and it got returned back to me with a no problem found on the repair tag! This is in no way a Kicker bashing post, but I don't know what to do about it now. I hooked it up in my room on a 50 amp power supply just to power it (no signal going through it) to see how long it would take to overheat. A little over 2 hours turned on and it went into protection. Anybody got any suggestions??

Eric

Hey man I run kicker amps, my roommate runs kicker amps and alot of my friends run kicker amps, (yeah were kinda fans of them) anyways I hate to say this but they just get hot that is all there is to it they just run hot. Mine used to overheat all the time, I know my roommates overheats alot to. Do you have it in a very wide open space where it can breath? Or just carry around cans of compressed air and spray down the amp ever so often, trust me it works.......... [Big Grin]

What kind of electrical system do you have for it? What impedance are you running it at?

I have a 220 amp alt, 2 Kinetik 2400 batteries, and 1/0 awg wire to the batteries and amp. The amp was in a 2 ohm load. The volume doesn't even have to be turned up though for it to overheat.

several things to check.
your ground is good
voltage is staying about 12v
your gains arent up high
stay away from the bass boost

check the last 2 lines of my original post. I tested it inside to see how long it takes to overheat.

I don't know then....

I had a ZX running at .9 on one Kinetic 2400, no prob for daily. Currently I have 2-ZXs running at 2 off of one Kinetic 2400 with no probs.....I've had 17 of those amps at one time, and the only problem I had with them was when I ran more than 17.3 into them. The only time I ever see them get really hot is if the voltage supply isn't enough....sounds like yours is alright though. Try calling Kicker again and explain what happened, and that it is still a problem. If you bought the amp from an authorized source, they should work with you.

An update... I called Kicker back and told them what happened and they sent a call tag for the amp. It should get taken care of this time around. Hopefully I get it back soon because it just doesn't sound right without the low end [Smile]
