Ok I'm looking between a MTX 2300x or a Hifonics Zeus ZX7500 to power my Solobaric s15d4 (15" round solo). The MTX's are becoming harder to come across but are around $150 on ebay. The Hifonics probably has more headroom and they are around $200 on ebay. So which one would be best for SQ? Here are some specs :

MTX 2300x :
RMS Power measured at 12.5 Volts DC:
150 Watts x 2 into a 4 Ohm load with less than 0.05% THD+N
300 Watts x 2 into a 2 Ohm load with less than 0.1% THD+N
600 Watts bridged into a 4 Ohm load with less than 0.1% THD+N
Dynamic Power (IHF-202 Std) measured at 14.4 Volts DC
200 Watts x 2 into a 4 Ohm load
375 Watts x 2 into a 2 Ohm load
750 Watts bridged into a 4 Ohm load
Signal to Noise Ratio:
> or = 110dB A-Weighted
Damping Factor:
>200
Frequency Response:
20Hz-20kHz±0.25dB

Hifonics Zeus ZX7500 :
250 watts x 2 channels @ 4 ohms with .05% THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)
1,000 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms RMS bridged power
500 watts x 2 @ 2 ohms
2 channels (bridgeable to 1 channel)
Advanced Heat Sink design allows amp to stay cooler than ever and pump out more power more efficiently
Hot neon light up and illuminated Logo on amp
Extreme powerful mosfett power supply
top-of-the-line PWM Circuitry
Built-in High-Pass and low-pass crossover filters
Line level Output
Molded Power and Speaker Connectors
Free remote bass boost is included
0 - 18 DB of Bass Boost
Frequency Response: 10-30,000 Hz
Signal to Noise Ratio: >95 dB

Thanks,

Ryan

I have had alot of good success mith the old MTX amps. I have heard this particular amp is VERY powerful and usually exceed the 750 watt rms mark by alot. I don't know much about the Hifonics amp though. Me personally would go with the 2300x.

I haven't seen a 2300x go for $150 on ebay in a long time, they usually go for a lot cheaper. [Smile]

Also there are quite a few models of this board with very slight differences(crossover mostly)...you have the older 2300, the most popular 2300x, the road thunder RT2600 and the blue thunder pro300x2

Also like Precision Audio stated, the RCA input jacks on these boards are little weak so if someone isn't careful and is constantly unpluging/pluging the cables in then it could break...but its very easy to fix

Thats a tough one. It depends on the layout of your entire system, which you have an old school solobaric. I would do the MTX. It would put up atleast 900 watts.

I would go with the MTX simply because they are really underrated and I used to have the old MTX 2300, not the 2300x model. Also keep in mind about the impedance of your sub, cuz the amp puts out the most watts into 4 ohms.

Thanks for the replies! [Big Grin] I've been leaning towards the MTX because I've enjoyed the MTX amps that I've had in the past. I've had the Blue Thunder Pro 502, 752, and two 1502's over the years and they were all solid amps. But I have a question is the MTX 2300 (the black case with the red logo) and the MTX 2300x (black, white, or gold case with the Gold Logo) are pretty much they the same (I think the 2300 is older but also not counting the crossover, I don't need one built in I already use my PPI X3 for all that)? How under rated are they? I'm pretty sure it'll be more than adequate for my 4ohm 15" old school round Solobaric. Anyone know of a good SQ based amp that puts out at least 750 watts or so at 4ohm mono around a $200 price range?

Thanks again!

Ryan

they are basically the same...but I would perfer the mtx2300 because the heatsink is a better design then the flat 2300x

with 13.8v you should see 750-800wrms you'll get more if you can keep up with higher voltage

I would choose the MTX solely on their history of awesome power
