I need help! I just removed my stock 3.5" speakers (because they poped) and installed quality 5.25" components in my dash. I have the tweeters mounted on my doors. These TN45 tweets and polykev focal xovers are supposed to be very high end, I spent good money on them. I installed them last weekend and have been trying to adjust them. I have a p1r headunit and a 600a4 amp pushing the component (through passive xovers). For some reason I am getting muddy highs, I mean the highs would sound decently crips with it's only one girl singing, but when she sings really high or when there are multiple high sounds at once -- my mids seem to drop quality and send out muddy highs.

From experience, my 3.5" infintiy speakers made highs that were about 10 times sharper, and did not hurt my ears as much. Is there a way I can make my focal tn45 sound at least as good as my cheap 3.5" speakers? My dex-p1r headunit has a 13 band equalizer built in, but I don't get much improvement lowering or higher the db's on my highs.

Any suggestions and advice would be highly appriciated! Thanks

David

Did you just say Focal and muddy in the same sentance, that's not good, dunno what your problem is, are they in kicks or factory locations?

The Polykevlars are nice!

I just put some Utopia's in our show room floor... aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhhhh eeeeeeeeeeeeeee aaaaaaaaaa I love them!

It's probably an efficiency matching problem. Focal mid's are designed to be used on that crossover. My guess is that the focal tweeters and the mid's you are using are totally out-of-sync.

i had a set of focal 165k2 polykevlars and was also unhappy with them, especially the tweeters. no matter what what my installer did with install and tuning we could not get them to sound good at all. i ended up gettinr rid of them and getting illusion mids and usd horns and am much happier now. by the way my installer and tuner is eric holdaway from speakerworks in case youre wondering if he knew what he was doing.

See, i dont know very many people who dont like the polykevs
the tweets are a bit harsh
but not "muddy" at all.

Dang, I must save up for Tn51 Tweeters then. Does anyone know if the TN51 sound clear, sharp and not as harsh?

Thanks
David

You must have a problem in your system somewhere else. Are you using the Focal xovers? Is it possible you have them backward? They are not labeled.

Honestly,
the TN45 tweets are still some of the best out there, there is NO real reason to upgrade to the tn51s right away, something is going wrong in your system... i fear it may be what Stock Camry said.
