Well I have been thinking about this for a while now and I just don't see the point. I just have so many things going on this year and the ones comming up. I have Lacrosse season, and life guard training which takes up my whole week and week end. This summer I am moving to Life guard before I go to college. I do not think that I will have the time to persue my love of car audio. I will not have the money to keep upgrading my stereo nor the time. I guess I will just upgrade one final time before I quit. This upgrade includes getting rid of my 2 HE2s and getting 1 IDMAX. I love competing with and talking to all of you guys. I do not like this decision but I guess I will have to do it. I will soon be a poor poor college student. Also I have been thinking about my hearing. I have been reading stories and pondering weather or not I really want to go through that too. Some of these people are not too much older than I am. I know I will miss the ability to make someone leave my car holding their ears but I know that I will be saving mine. I love this sport but I just don't think I will be doing it anymore .
Car audio is something that you can't leave. Once you got the competition bug, there is no cure. You may leave for a while, but you will be back. You will be back bigger and better with more SPL.
Really though we hate to see you or anyone leave the lanes. Good luck in whatever you do, and hopefully you will find the lanes once again, knowing it's your destiny to compete.
good luck,

Wow, that is a hard decision, sorry to hear it. I've been debating the hearing thing also, i have a hard time controlling the volume (even tho it's usually for less than a minute)...
Oh, i'm a poor college student also! hasn't adversely affected my system, just my pocketbook hehehehe
Good luck in whatever may become of your participation in this sport! Least you're sensible enough to realize any damage you're doing and taking action against it

I feel your pain. I went through that over the summer, I just kinda fell out of audio, even disconnected my system for like a month due to problems with it, got sick of it. Way too expensive of a hobby(what hobby isn't though really). Because of audio(and losing my scholarship) I still have been unable to buy a new car, or save money up in my bank account. Lucky for me I'm not much of an SPL person anymore, I'm not that worried about my hearing. I do have my SPL moments, and do plan on competing, but rarely do I crank it. I barely have the bass on with my music these days. I have already decided to stop audio(not quit, but it is over with when I finish this install, just need to build my amp rack and carpet my sub box), so I can finally afford the vehicle I want, and save some money up for when I transfer to another college. Good luck.

car audio is hard to quit but a hobby is something you will always have a passion for..and every time you hear a teenager booming through your streets at 3am pissing off the elderly you'll get that little urge again.

I agree that education, employement, and family are more important than audio. So, if you need to get any of these priorities "straight", do so now.
Once you get everything in order, gather your money....we will be here waiting for you to come play again.
Good luck with for future ventures.

You may want to put together a smaller, sound quality oriented system. It would save on your hearing, and you could listen to music the way you like to. It could cost less too. Don't leave the hobby, just tune it down until you have the time and money to do what you really want to do with the system. I don't think you can leave such a wonderful thing anyways, just wait and see, you will be coming back for more. lol... I sound like a drug dealer.

Dude, I made this same discision last year, it is VERY hard man, trust me, I decided I would stop with car audio, go to less competitions and stop spending money, and ummm.... this is what happened
I ended up going to 25 compeitions in 6 different states. Spent around $2K on equiptment Spent atleast $400 on entry fee's and sacrificed a lot of things in my life for car audio.

I'm sorry to hear about anyone consumer or competitor leave car audio. I've tried several times to quite, guess what, each time i came back with something newer, bigger, better, and louder. Before i decided to compete i quit car audio, 2 weeks later i bought a 91 cougar and a bunch of stuff and guess what, I'm now back with a killer system in my truck and a car thats getting ready to be biuld for S.S. 1-2. Go Figure. Dood, trust me, when your out of college and around 26-30 years old, you will be back and better then ever.
Remember, car audio is a life style, its not a hobby. It will live within you all your life.
