My friends and I have always had the best luck in that price range with Pioneer. Pioneer makes some great stuff for that price. I'm not sure of the current model numbers, but I'm sure the guys on the forum know the numbers.
good luck with your system,

I HIGHLY suggest you check out Rockford Fosgate decks. The 8320 or the 8330 if you find it for 250. They have all you need. 2.4 volt preouts that are very clean, 3 sets and a volume control on the summed outs. They are very easy to use, most functions can be done with the single knob/button control. Large easy to read display. Not a lot of gimmics, just a good solid and simple head unit. An excellent buy for the price.

My experiences have suggested that RF is a better deck than pioneer. I love pioneer decks, around the best you can get for the money. But once I put my RF in (had a pioneer 6000) i heard things in the sub bass range that I had not heard before.. little subtelties, more thumps.. maybe this is because of the very very low output impedence.. I dont know for sure. Plus, now that I have a clean, simple deck like my RFX8230, I dont think I can ever go back to the flasy gimmicky decks with the dolphins or horsies. Problem is, now the RF decks look pretty flashy and high tech. Next deck will probably have to be a Nak.

RDAEX, that 8230 kicks ass doesn't it!? The controls are simple, and it is a good performer. I haven't seen the 2001 models but the 2000 models were very close to the same, up to the 8330, and the 8340 and 8350 were a little flashier but still nice. Anyone looking for a good budget minded deck, should take a serious look at RF.
