on the punch xlc tens... theyre rated at 200 rms.... im wondering how much theyll actually take on a consisten basis... tech, any opinions on this one?? cause if theyll take it, im gonna go with three of them and a punch 800a2.. that would put about 300-350 into each of them.... too much??
if so, ill just run the 500a2, so ill be putting like 200-250 into each of them.. which would be better??

Hrm....200x3 = 600. However, most high-end subs can take 20% more than rated RMS = at least 240/sub = 720 RMS for a three-way (menage-a-trois?) The 800a2 is rated at 800x1, yes? (200x2 stereo RMS, 400x2 2 Ohm stereo RMS, 800x1 4 Ohm mono.....memory fades from time to time, sorry.) If your gains are set less than half, you could probably run them without much to worry about, but if you want to crank your gain up to 3/4 or higher, then I'd strongly consider the 500a2 (125x2 4 Ohm stereo, 250x2 2 Ohm stereo, 500x1 4 Ohm mono). However, RF amps are always underrated, so you might be able to get your 600 RMS out of a 500a2.

I'd personally go with the 800a2, run the gains at 1/2 or a little less and keep your headroom . However, RF also makes the Power 500a2, which might be an even better choice for you.

Other opinions are sure to come, and please correct me if my numbers are off at all. Good luck

What he said plus you can use enclosure design
to enhance a drivers power handling a little.

I dunno, he sounds like one of those crazy guys!
Go with the 500a2 - it still gives a nice 600 mono.
If you have the $$ to step up to DVC then hit the 800a2 - the DVCs will love the 1000+ watts it delivers!!!

why not buy the 800a2 now that way if he does choose to upgrade to DVCs he'll only have the XLCs to sell which is less of a hassle and will save money in the long run. JMO

You have a very valid and popular route for people to take. I just think that buying something 'for now' is a waste since you never get all your money back. I would rather wait that extra month...

well..... i think ill go with the 500, cause with the warranty plans i get for them, i can blow them up, and get full credit back towards whatever else i want...
but i reaaaaally wanted the 800
but if i bridge it, i doubted the xlcs would take the 350 per sub it would put out.... hehe
although with the warranty plans on the subs too
hehehe

I have to say the 800A2 simply for the headroom and the ability to upgrade later... The XLCs will handle more power than stated easily... I have a buddy with 2 10" XLCs wired mono on a 225.2, thats more power than they will handle, easily!, and they will stand up to it... Not to mention he is one of those guys who likes ported boxes and bass music... Turn the gains down and feel it in your spine, you will love the power...
