A buddy of mine has a problem. He just swapped out his bandp****box and amp for new stuff. During the process he told me the remote turn on lead was touching the ground wire he said the radio wouldn't work then he went back and separated them and it works fine now. Well he put in all the new stuff and now when he turns the system up loud it like is one continous b****line. it's a clarion deck and the remote turn on isn't fused on it. Do you think the remote turn on fried something inside?

Hmm im no expert but if the remote turn on was fried then your amp wouldnt turn on When one of my xmax subs fried it sounded kinda like what you described. It would hit hard and then have 1 long low ba$$ Not to mention the neat mushroom cloud coming out of the ports hehe. If thats not it only other thing I could think of is a underpowered electrical system. Put a colt meter on it and watch it.
Can anyone confirm this cause Im just starting to learn everything

Almost sounds like feedback. Why didn't he unhook the battery before starting? The worst thing he could have done to the deck is either burn a trace on the board (for the remote B+) or possibly the transistor that drives it. What else did he do to the system? What new equipment and how is it wired?

Well to eliminate the remote lead off the deck causing the oscillation try making a jumper from the remote lead and power lead at the amp (disconnect the deck remote from the amp when you do this) and see if the problem changes. Also I would check for V drop at the amp. A meter or test light at the amp should tell you if a severe drop is happening. You could also have a burnt ground trace in the deck causing this. What kind of amp?

the amplifier is an mtx 2150x. it's about 3 months old i previously owned this amp and it worked without a problem for me. The system is a clarion drx-55 or something? then 4 gauge to a 2150x then to 3 10w0's they're 12ohm series and wired parallel. ------------------

Those MTX amps are notorious for a broken ground pin on the RCA connectors. I will tinker with my MTX amp and see if there is a easy way to have you check yours. This broken pin thing just happens often, you don't need to have hit it or anything. And of course this isn't necessarily your problem, but I've seen it cause this in other systems.

Well from what you said they sound like a problem EXACTLY the same as what this guy was having at the last show I judged. He had done something and some here he siad there was a problem with the RCA connections on his amp. He went back there and could move the actual plug that went into the amp and the contining bass note would stop till what ever he did got undone by the bas hitting. But from what his problem was sould like a feed pack problem like Inno said...

your right tech and proaudio. It was the rca connections. They were loose from the amplifier's casing were as all the other amp's i have the rca's were stiff to the casing. MTX said they're turn around rate is about 3 weeks. How long would it take you tech?

Well you didnt ask me but from what I have seen. The ideal time is 3 weeks or so. But I have seen it take much longer. Friend of mine heck that took almost 2 months. But there was an issue there. Other about warrenty. But 3 weeks seems right when there is not other odd issues.

I have the test for your RCA's (to be sure) Take an ohmmeter and check for continuity between one of the amps RCA shields and the gnd input on the high level amp inputs. I checked some MTX amps I had laying around and they were all common ground input so you should be able to to test it that way. Do you just have 3 little pins on you high level input? Anyway the meter should read similarly to touching the leads together. I don't do the shipping repair thing anymore, I have to much business locally. If you have a shop locally do the work then I would suggest you use one that is confortable with auto amps. I've noticed many repair shops just aren't up to snuff on car stuff, especially amps.

I shipped the amplifier off to mtx on wednesday so a month from now hopefully the amp will be back. I'll keep that test in mind since I have three other mtx amps. Thanks everybody that helped me out.

Turn on rate at mtx 3 weeks???? WOW! I have had three Xtant amps go in for repair in my life (and one just went in and came back a week ago) and the longest I was out of a amp was one week!! Not only that but those two companies are in the same building too... hmmm...strange! "Mtx-3 weeks" "Xtant 1-week" Looks like we know who values their customer more!!!
