I was thinking of hooking up this equipment in the rec room 3-10WO's off an Powerclass 2100, two jl vr 6 1/2's, and two phoneix gold 4 inch's off a jvc 80watts X 5 reciever. Do you guys think this is a good idea, I don't want to buy the reciever if this setup won't sound good. As well, how would i set up the speakers, since they are all four ohms, but the reciever is set for 8 ohms speakers? Any suggestions would be appreicated?

Does the reciever say a minimum of 8 ohms must be observed? It may handle 4 ohm loads, otherwise you can always wire the speakers in series for 8 ohm loads. Resistance all boils down to heat folks.

I'll have to check into that to see if the reciever can handle it. One more question though, would the three tens sound better ported or sealed for this type of setup...right now they are in a ported box tuned to 38hz. I'm not sure what type of box would be best for this application?

to run the PPI amplifier in the house, you'll either need a VERY expensive power supply or a car battery and a charger to keep it going...

As long as everything is in a well made cabitnet it should sound pretty darn good.
One thing I would add is a good tweeter as well. That will really liven up any music you play with heavy drums or any crashes from a movie or something. those 4" can only play so high a frequency, I'd find where the start to drop off and cross them over and add a tweet.

Thanks for the input. Just a couple of questions...I might have a pair of vega series 15's to hook up instead of the 10's. With the power from that amp, which set would be better? I would think the vega's but I just want to make sure. As well, do recievers actually put out that much wattage, or are they rated like decks?

Anyone? I'll be grabbing this reciever today, but I need to know how much power they actually put out? I know decks say 45 X 4 but then it's really 17 or so X 4, are recievers measured this way too?

HEY DUUDE LOOK!! THIS CD PLAYER PUTS OUT 55 WATTSX4....I DONT EVEN NEED AN AMP WITH THIS THING!!!
see what i mean??
again...it still depends on the company...non-ES Sonys say 100Wx? channels and a Marantz 60Wx? channel reciever could smoke the hell out of it...itz all brand specific...they didn't fix ratings in home audio either...*shrugz*
