I made my box to fit perfect into my trunk and still give me some space, then i put it in there and it sucked, then i pulled it toward the back of the trunk(firing rearways) and it sounded a lot clearer and louder

it really depends on the car but in general a rear firing box between 4 and 8 inches away from the back of the car sounds best....However i have heard stories of rear firing boxes sounding louder to the ear but front firing boxes scoring higher on the meter. Almost as if the bass is hiding somewhere. If you are competing i would first switch it around in different locations with your local shops meter and see which hits higher. If going for every day listening i would also say play around with it but rear firing will more than likely sound best

yup. what he said.
6-12" firing at the BACK(butt) of the car usually yields the best results for boom.

a lot of people think that if you point the subs forward that they'll be louder, but thats not true b/c lower waves need room to expand and when you face it back and "corner" load it (putting it 6-12" away from back) it "bounces" off the back of the car and amplifies itself..

the best way to figure it out in your car is the throw a box in there and start movin and pointin until you find the best position, then make it permanant.
