We installed two 50 farad caps on a 16 volt system and lost about 1 db. --------------------

17.5 volts is a lot for a cap. The higher the voltage the more current they store so I would make doubly sure that whatever you buy can handle that amount of voltage. Just so you know a farad is a ratio, a 1 farad cap will store one amp of current per volt supplied, so your 50 farad cap....will hold a hell of a lot at 17.5 volts My 2 cents would be get a good battery if your looking for spl.
