I have a 95 Grand Am and I think it is probably the same body style as the 93. To get the back speakers out I had to remove the carpeted back deck cover. I don't think I had to remove the seats though. You just have to get the deck cover out from around the seatbelts. Once you've removed the old ones, Just mount the new ones from underneath with 1/2" drywall screws, it will sve you the headache of having to remove the deck cover again. Hope this helps.

dude mine was a slizzut and a half!! I think I would have had to pull the vertical part of the rear seat off to access the rear deck plastic pop screws but I never did it cause the bolts were stripped man you have one of those T-30 wrenches... Use it on that and yank the bolts out and go from there... I'm probably doing it the difficult way but I personally wouldn't mount the speakers from underneath... But thats just me

I believe for a 93, you need to remove the bottom part of the rear seat, then the back of the seat. Then you can gain access to the screws that hold the side trim panels in place, you can pop them out a lil ( you do not have to remove them). then you grab the carpet rear cover, and finess it out. you may have to bend a corner, but it will work. then you remove the old speakers, then put in the new. then reverse the process of removing the rear seats. it is not that it is a lot of work, just time consuming. the first car i had to remove the rear seats, and trim panels to replace the speakers, took FOREVER. but after practice( or repetitive work) comes speed. me and a friend installed door speakers ( removed door panels) and the rear deck speakers ( similar to your mom's grand am) .. 4 speakers.. in about 30 minutes easy. good luck, and let us know how it goes!!

first off there's two bolts located below the bench of the seats, remove those. Next remove the seatbelts. Then pop the cover off. It is a bich have fun.

Get in the trunk with a drill. Open the shank of the drill wide open and slip it over the screws holding the speaker in. Put the driill in "Forward" over the screws. As the shank closes, make sure it is centered over the screw. Keep it in "forward" and it will back the screw right out. It will take a few times to get it right, but, once ya do, it'll be a breeze. After all the screws are loose, crook the speaker and it'll come right out.
Once you get them out, attatch the new ones from the bottom. On the rear speaker in that car, the dark wires are positive.
