I am on my way to pick up a 32440, but want to know if anyone out there knows of a difference from these two amps with appear both physically and from the information online at Eclipse's website to be virtually identical. Thx for any info in advance!

Well, I went to the shop and listened to the guy who I THOUGHT was knowledgeable, but who turned out to be just fakin' the funk.
I looked at the manual and the unit and the 32440 has a on/off selectable 120hz HP crossover for the rear channels in addition to the LP filter.
On top of everything, I now know that my old 3242 (same amp, last model of 32430) is probably actually not broken, because the same problem that I had with it occured when I tried to install my new Eclipse amp. Basically I get no audio output, except a very feeble output from the right side speakers. Tonight I'm going to run a continuity test on the my RCA's/speaker wires and (God help me) if they arent grounded out/damaged, because then it's the damm head unit. Looks like maybe I'll finally have to get rid of my good old 6575z
Any suggestions? I was looking at a JVC SH99 or maybe a nak 45z, even though they've been rumored to have reliability issues.
Heh, the funniest thing is I think I'm going to re-install the Eclipse 3242 amp ~ it has a MUCH better crossover. The new ChannelFlex crossovers suck. The 3242 had identical crossovers for front, rear, AND the pre-out! Anything imaginable can be done ~ HP, LP, or BP ~ on each crossover! You can change the frequency range of the frequency selector, and I believe when bridged you get 24db/octave slopes. I loved this amp when I first got it and still do! It's gonna be great having her back! Plus, with the awesome original 3242's ChannelFlex x-over'ed preout jumped into the 32440, I can bypass the el-crapo new ChannelFlex. I think I'll switch my A/D/S/ 336is.2 comps to bi-amp them with the 3242, and then use the 32440 to power...rear speaks maybe. Dont really nead them, or the extra amp taking up space and eating current. Makes me kind of sad to see a newer model so inferior to the last year's model. Development/production on the Ti's must have drained Eclipse's development and production budget.
Who knows, if the 3242 works out good maybe I'll just sell off the 32440. What a shame. Anyone know how to fix the pre-out section of a deck?

I have a 3242 as well and love it. I was just telling the guys at the shop today that I might sell it though so I can get something bigger. I need more power now that I will be running front and rears(traded a reg cab truck for a sedan). I have the speakers for the rear so I might as well use them, just fade to the rear ever so slightly.

Sell it?!! Whaat!?¿? Just find another 3242 out there and run them bridged 2 channel. Or just get a new Eclipse 32440 or whatever you want and use the pre-out crossover from the 3242. Then bridge the 3242 to your fronts and use the other amp for rears. That's how I had my 3242 running, minus the second amp for rear speakers. Bridged to 2 channels for my A/D/S/ 336is.2 6.5" components, that is. Worked great, and the few times I had people in the back I used my deck's internal amp (hahaha!) to run the Pioneer 3-way 6x9's under the rear deck. When not needed I just faded the deck setting all the way to the front. You really dont need those rear speakers, CD-audio is only 2 channel, no surround sound. Plus your subs can do nasty things to 6x9's when they occupy the same space - your trunk. If you just have speakers in there unpowered the subs will actualy push them in and out from the pressure wave they create and make them act like passive radiators. I'm sure if I put 6x9's in my current car with over 1600w pushing my 2 CMP15's the 6x9's would blow in no time from bottoming out/over-excursion. I tell you one thing for sure - next car I get will DEFINITELY be a 'hatch. Fricken trunk-bass...'Nuff Said.
