sup guys...im looking into a 15 inch sub that will get me massive spl without totally sacrificing sound quality. Ive narrowed my search down to these two...the JL 15w3 and the Kicker 15 L7. price isnt an issue because i can get both for equal $$$. I have not heard these before, however. Could i get some feedback on the pros, cons of each and what systems you all are running if you have them. I will be getting a JBL 1200.1 and space isnt an issue...i am planning on porting the subs..any help is greatly apreciated...thanks!

Well first of all are you going to want one or two or more subs? And if so are you going to use a JBL per sub or for a pair? YOu get what I mean. If you plan to use a JBL for each sub then definitely go with the L7 because when ported with anything over 1000W that sucker will shake your guts out. The JL's will be good also but i am pretty sure most people will vote for the kicker with that power. Though I am a JL Audio fan and user for years, I must say that the kicker pounds harder than the do with that amount of power and in a ported box for competitions. What also got to me the first time I saw a l7 was the size of the damn sub. It seemed much bigger than regular 15" subs. The damn 15 looks like and 18 or something close to 18" subs.
So in my opinion, it gives a better throw with that size cone and as i have seen over and over will get very destructive in ported boxes with anything over 1-1200W. If you were going with the JBL for a pair of subs then your best bet would be the 15W3 over the kicker beacuse othe amount of power. 600 a piece will nto really get the kicker to shine as you want it in a prted box, might get a JL to shine though. ALL IN ALL, WE LIKE TO SPANK HER, BUT HEY, KICK-ER if she likes THAT TOO!!!!!!

do you know how 2 12L7's would sound off the JBL 1200.1? Would the 2 12L7 be louder than the 15 assuming the 15 gets all 1200 and the 12's get 600 a piece?

The 15W3's can easily handle the power of the JBL amplifiers. In the properly designed box, the W3's can put out alot of SPL while still maintaining great sound quality.

As for the Kicker having a bigger cone, that is true, it's a sqaure so a 15 X 15 object will have more area than a 15 inch diameter object. Total displacement is calculated by taking your cone are and multiplying it by the speakers X max and in that area, the 15W3 has more displacement which equals output.

I'd go with the 15'' L7 in a 4.5 cube ported box, you will have decent SQ and awsome SPL!

If u can give up enough room go w/ the 15L7 ported no doubt! those things will rattle teeth if setup half right! and if you can afford the 2 - 12" that should be better.

After using the 15w3s this season and just giving them a beating all year long, id have to give a vote for the 15w3s. Great sub and sounds nice as well.

The JL doesn't displace more air than an L7.

Both are excellent subwoofers!! The JL will work better in a smaller enclosure. I think the L7 can get louder, but it's close. Both will handle the same amount of power, and both have good SQ(if installed right).
