Something about that isn't right.... I remember a few years ago the recording industry got slapped for price fixing. The big chain stores like fred meyer and best buy could purchase in such large quantities they could easily sell cd's for 14-15 dollars (and they tried), but the recording industry said they wouldn't let them buy if they sold them that cheap.... More similar than not IMO.
Selling for profitability? Its not like anyone is going to go out of business if some shop sells a w7 for cheaper than JL says it should be sold at (assuming of course the shop is smart enough to sell it for enough to make a profit).
I can see why most audio companies avoid the internet like the plauge. Wouldn't want to cause any harm to the status quo and cut out the shops and the distributers...of course they easily get around that by saying they wont honor warranties for internet sales. Still sounds pretty fishy to me.

Its a good thing the whole country doesnt do what - sell profitably? Yea, that would bring our country to its knees. Not.

no, if everything we bought was fixed at a specific price, we would all either
1: be forced to pay a lot of money for all goods in the US and be broke
or
2: buy from outside the USA where we can find goods cheaper, which would obviously cause our economy to tumble, while boosting other economies... i geuss the postal service would thrive though

ohhhh, i know i will get a lot of crap for this but i don't care cuz this is what i and many others strongly believe.
there is a good reason why many people opt for purchasing their car audio equipment over the net. IT'S CHEEPER!!!
why should i drive on over to the local car stereo shop and so i can be treated like i am stupid and be charged possibly twice as much as if i would had paid if i bought it over the net? i have NEVER recieved any good help from a car audio shop. all they care about is makin the sale. i have worked at home depot for nearly four years. although the comany has gone downhill dramaticly recently, they are based on taking care of every customer. they are to take equal care w/ the customer needing the $1 part cuz w/ nice service, that customer might go to home depot instead of lowes when that hot water heater busts. now i might consider shopping at a car stereo shop if i recieved such treatment. when i need to buy power cable or whatever accessory, i am usually pushed over so they can help someone looking to get a cell phone or to someone w/ wads of mommy's cash in their paws. so when it comes time to buy a new sub, i have no reason to go to that shop.
ok, if i go to a car stereo shop, i guess i am paying more for service and for warranty. i already discussed the service. as far as warranty, that is disgusting that companies do not honor warranties for internet sales. who's name is on the product? if it says kicker on the sub, and it blows, bet your ass kicker should service it. who made it? kicker or the online store?
and another reason why those prices are so high is that those manufacturers like to give out free merchandise for competitors and for demo cars. hell, how is it fair for me if i wanted to compete w/ equipment that i purchased with my hard earned money. then joe schmoe comes in w/ a car which one manufacturer supplied all the equipment. how is that fair? yeah, i know they have different classes for that, but u should see my point.
onother thing is that people w/ "connections" get the same product at the car audio shop for cheaper than i would pay. why????? why are they more special? but then jl wants to set prices??? but it's ok for those lucky few to get stuff at cost.
i am in my 7th year of college and am not rolling in the dough to waste money so jl can keep their set prices. i'll let the parents of 16 y/o junior get him a new mustang and a top of the line system from the local car audio dealer since mom -n- pops are rollin in the dough.
as i said before, i am not tryin to upset anyone here. i know i will. but this is exactly how i feel and i just feel that something should be done.

Damn, it's not price fixing...our store does not sell JL below MAP price, and neither do the other authorized JL dealers in the area.
I would doubt the W7s will come down in price at the retail level anytime soon. Even as an employee, I can't buy a W7 any cheaper than MAP for atleast 6 months...so, right now, if I wanted a 12W7 I would have to pay the $700 for it.

If you wanted to buy one, then I guess it would suck to be you. Buy over the internet. Then if the shop retailers lose enough money then maybe they'll drop there prices to be competitive. It will happen.
