I have a pioneer deh1000 hooked up to a 360a2. To achieve reasonable output I have to have the gains maxed out on my 360a2. I'm gonna be buying a new amp soon, between 1000-1500 watts and I'm worried that with this much power if my gains have to be set like that it may induce too much distortion and blow my sub. Am I paranoid or do I need a line driver? If you guys think I need a line driver any reccomendations on one. Thanks

yes, I would reccomend a line friver. Seeing how your head unit has a low voltage on the pre-out, this will continue to be a problem until you get some sort of signal amplification.
