alright...i'm curious as to what exactly the gain is out of hooking up a line driver into your system...i know it amplifies the HUs output voltage..but what exactly does this accomplish....in a little more than layman's terms like..it makes cleaner sound...indulge me...

You are right a line driver amplifies the HU signal. The higher the signal level the higher the ratio of signal to induced noise on the amp inputs. So basically it makes you have a cleaner signal by the time it gets to your amp. A line driver won't make your system louder, your amp can only make so much power and it will do that regardless of input signal level (to a point).

understood...thatz kinda what i was thinking...but itz just that i've heard of a lot of noise problems coming from line drivers....seems kinda counterproductive...unless you get lucky and it works of course...*shrugz*...i dunno...thanks for the info tho man...i appreciate it

Well, a line driver only amplifies what it is given. That being said, three main reasons may cause noise: either the line driver itself is shoddy and is introducing noise, the HU's pre-out section is shoddy and is introducing noise to the line driver, or the RCA's are inducing noise to the system. I run an Audio Control Overdrive and have never had a noise problem (well, due to that piece anyway...) B.T.W.- If you have a good deck w/ a true 4v pre-out, you most likely don't need said line driver, except to look pretty
