greetings,

I am looking for suggestions for an sq 3 way crossover. it will be used to seperate signals for a 3way dynaudio set 6 channels . i just found out my equipment is incapable of mid range band pass. I looked at the audiocontrol dqx (brand i enjoy but then i got to thinking there may be some better sounding processors.) i looked at zapco but the model i saw was indash and i want trunk mount. any suggestions for a true 3 way would be appreciated. features and fillers including equalization are unimportant. the only real criteria is the crossover must be made in the U.S. or Europe. No Asian Brands unless it is Japan. Or is the DQX what i am looking for?

The plan is to run the three way set active high pass tweets, bandpass mids and low pass woofers. if the woofers can be bandpass say 900hz to 90 hz that would probably be pretty nice too.

anyway, my ears are completely open for different brands and models.

regards, m.a.d.

Hey MAD,

I highly suggest a 3 way set of Rainbow Profi's 6 1/2", 4" and 1" tweeter.

I actually purchased the set seperately though (The 6 1/2 component set and the 4" mid and 3 way crossover)

hey T,
i'm not opposed to trying different sets. as a matter of fact i ran made in Germany quarts pretty much always till the dyns. at home it's silk tweeters and for now also mobile i'm just looking for a reference 3 way cossover so as to ditch the preety passive units that came with thw set.
sincerely, m.a.d.

I am a fan of Arc products so I will suggest the MX3 if your looking for just a x-over. If you want more like a complete setup to run your 3-way fronts and your sub plus active sound processing look at the DXE. Im looking into one for one of my builds.

hi supragod98 ,

I looked at the Arc audio website. it seems that the DXE is exactly what i'm looking for. Is the price for that unit really around $1,700 ? [Eek!] The mx3 looks good but it seems it wwould be good for a 2 way system with sub. the dxe has 2 bandpass modes perfect for the 5 inch woofer and 7 inch woofer. but, i can't do that price i still have to buy cables and stuff but thank you for the recommendation. i'll be looking at their website in more detail and see what else might work. regards, m.a.d.

The DXE can be had for a lot less then the MSRP stated on the Arc site. Also there is the Alpine unit if you can find one its the H701 and there is the Rockford 3sixty.2 All good choices.

If you can find a set, try a Nakamichi EC200 and EC200H. Been around for 20+ years, and still used in a lot of SQ systems today. Will need both units for a 3-4 way crossover setup. I bought my first one in 86, and still use them today...

hi guys,

i'll pass on alpine. i know the have some good stuff but one time i sent a 1310 tuner and it took them about 4 months to get it back to me and i could not contact them directly and my authorized dealer had trouble getting updates so no just for service. nakamichi might be looking for but i hear the service is just as terrible. the fosgate has too much stuff i do not need and is not as flexible as i want. i'm looking at Zapco but on paper the Arc audio DXE is perfect but too much. i am going to do some more research but it seems if i ran 2 of the MX3 arc audio's i vould run one of them bandpass to the 7" woofers. run the other one bandpass to the 5/1/4" woofers and use either for the tweeters and the subwoofer. does that sound doable? How exactly is everyone wiring up their 3 ways active? regards,
m.a.d.

If you want the Nakamichi route---(doubt you will need service. I had 11 of them until recently, now down to 5 or so) . They hold up great. Still use mine I bought new in 1986, and no issues. They just don't break. Dash mountable too. Not DIN, but will fit in a half din if you add to the sides...

There are 2 of each EC200 and EC200H listed on Ebay right now. The H series is SUPER RARE!!!. Same guy has all 4 listed. Only see an H-model on the bay about once or twice a year.

I've been running my h701 for years and it's under the passenger seat in my Prelude.I've put over 200,000 miles on her since I dropped the 701 in. The point is that people have been "walking" on it for years and it works as good as day 1.I don't believe Alpine has any reliability issues. Was the unit you sent in to them used when you bought it?I don't think there's a better unit out there (except the F#1 stuff from Alpine).Just my opinion.

hi Martin,

I had several issues with the 1310 head unit. the first was the cable connecting the control to the guts sometimes shook out. the display got toasted (luckily i had remote otherwise ..) and they tried to take my stuff one time and fried something. that's when i had to turn it in for repairs. it was an absolutely crispy reference deck.

back to the crossovers. i'm not going to be hunting anything down and i also want crossovers not eq spatial sound processing or what not. this is so much harder than i expected and so little choices. It would be extremely beneficial to see how people are wiring their 3 way components all active. i saw a focal some sort of cube that looked interesting but at the same price as the DXE.

If anyone wants to show me diagrams or pictures of their 3 ways that would rock.

regards,
m.ad.
