I thought about giving one of these a try. I got 2 dd 9500s, 2 american bass 150.1s. I know I can strap the amps without the maxx-link. Would I gain anything strapping the amps with the maxx-link or no?
I see the maxx-link has a clipping light. Is this just a dummy light? The only thing I see this clipping light tell you is if your clipping the input signal to the maxx-link, If you jack your amp gain(s) way up you will obiovously be clipping the amp but the maxx-link wont sense it because the maxxlink is before the output stage. If that makes sense.
Ive read someplace that you are to set your gains around half way up on the amps to start with. How can the maxx-link make give you the same settings on the amps? Every amp is not made idenical, while they use the same parts sometimes one seems to put out more power then the other, maybe by 1 watt or by 100+ watts. While I can see the lpf, ssf, bassboost, phase, etc can be controlled equally by the maxx-link, I dont see this working with the gain, unless you volt match your amp gain(s) prior. Or do the directions state to voltmatch (and whoever said to turn them to half for starters is just not a reliable source)? I think I read it here someplace.
Im just trying to figure out if its worth the money or not. Id like to have a gain knob, besides my old prc-1 which failed, and going through the settings on my deck to turn subwoofer settings up and down is just a pita.

BC, I'll try to explain as best as I can. The maxx-link has a built-in preamp that will send out an equal signal to all your amps, as for the gains, yes it is suggested that you start your gains at 12:00 high but, you SHOULD match all your amps(with a DMM) just to be on the safe side. As you stated, all amps are not the same, this is the reason you should gain match your amps.
(and whoever said to turn them to half for starters is just not a reliable source)?
Before you start questioning the source, you need to do more research on the product. The person who did the manuals is Mike Stiers over at Maxxsonics. I would suggest that you get the manual or contact him before you start questioning the sources. If your getting your info from people here, I suggest that you check their level of knowledge on the product, some people are having problems and are very quick to post the negative aspects, but once the problem is solved, they do not come back and post how the problem was solved and the results they achieved! example: some gained a few db's, some noticed a steady score etc.
Contact Mike over at Maxxsonics and get the info needed. "Mike Stiers" <mikes@maxxsonics.com>

I have contacted mike, waiting for a reply. Thus I have not gotten that reply I was asking here.
I can not go by what 2 different people say in one post, theres a 50 50 chance of someone being right or wrong.
If the manual states to start at half gain, thus would mean turn your gain to half, not volt match. Hence is why I asked if it was to be volt matched.
I am sorry for wasting your time with a noob question about the product that I do not know, and is too hard for users of the product to answer.
As stated, here is what Ive read, I believe both posters are users of this unit since they seem to be somewhat knowledable of them.

I believe the maxxlnk instructions says to put the gain on the amplifier to max then control the gain with the maxxlink
quote:Originally posted by D-Bass: no they don't nick. they say to start about halfway. or measured to about 5-6volts output with no subs attached. then to adjust on the maxxlink. then readjust and gain match the amps at a higher or lower level if needed.
But I was taking it a step farther with asking if volt matching the amps would be better then just turning the dial all the way up like a noob would do so with his sony xplod stereo that was just bought from walmart for $200...

BC, if I came off wrong, forgive me. looking at the 2 replies that are posted. D-Bass is right. In general, you should start with your gains 1/2 way (this is just a safe measurement)the most people turn their gains up to is 3/4.. again..most in general. myself included! or if your taking notes on your setup (which you should do. always keep a record of your adjustments...the pro's here will back that statement up I'm sure!) start off with 5~6volts. Remember, your setting on your maxxlink output is at it lowest setting now. so you want to keep your amps at a safe level when you start turning your M/L output up. You don't want your amps to clip early!! or at all if possible.

Your not wasting my time, never think that, its all about learning. I'm still learning about my system and the maxx-link. If I can help in any way, I will. again, sorry for sounding like a hard azz.
