I've been using a mp3 player as my HU for awhile and it has SRS surround processing built-in with a bunch of controls(SRS, Focus, WOW, TruBass & 20~100 high-pass control), similar to what Windows Media Player have in their enhancements. With it engaged & tweaked the stereo imaging raised to about shoulder height, it sounds spacious as if I'm in a house and I can localize different instruments/singers easier. The bassline is right between tight and boomy but the dynamics are leveled off a bit, or maybe my cheap subs can't keep up. I've been a fan of non-EQ, straight source-to-amp guy but is what I hear with SRS more acoustically correct than flat EQ? Here's their website...

Depends on what kind of SRS you have too cause there are tons of them. It's weird though cause it elevates and widens my sound stage without changing the characteristics of the music, no distortion or anything. Sometimes the sound seems like it's coming from outside of my window. I'm just wondering if what I'm hearing is considered more accurate or not, or perhaps it's "psycho-acoustically correct" but not "realistically correct."
