David Navone Engineering NE-8V (scroll down a bit)

NE-8V

Yeah it's a LOC but it may serve a purpose. This thing supposedly will put out up to 9.0 volts RMS. My ancient h/u puts out like 1.5 or so volts. Recently my Memphis electronic crossover took a dump on me. It boosted the signal going to the amp a bit. My highs amp is just fine, but my RF amp that I use for my RE sub is not putting out like it did with the xover.

Basically would using this product allow me to send a higher voltage to my amps? Secondly if I got something like this and installed it in my gf's car (which still has that nasty alt whine) would the higher voltage overpower the whine and bring happiness to my life?

Thanks!

ya, that would jump the preout voltage...
as far as the whine

you'll be playing things at a lower volume, and it should sound like it used to, that can stop the whine if its from your unit being turned up to high, but if it's running in the line, then you just jumped upo a signal that either way would be carrying the whine, so it would do nothing... where is the whining noise coming from?

Does yours really put out 9.5 volts? I'm assuming you hook the loc up to a 12 power source, right?

If you don't have noise in your system---what benefit are you hoping to get from a line driver?

If your GF's car has alt whine---don't try to band aid it---fix the problem.

You need a bigger amp, more cone area, or a more efficient enclosure then. Assuming your gains are set correctly now, if you use a line driver to up your voltage, you would turn down your gains---leaving you where you are. A line driver is not meant to make your system louder.

Well here's the deal. I know it's not the right way to do it, but the gain on my sub amp is maxed out. Honestly I still do not think it's putting out even its rated 800 watts. When I get metered people think my score should be much higher for an amp benched by RF to put out 925 watts.

1.5 volts is plenty on that amplfier. It doesn't need 8 volts plus just to get to its RMS output.

So you have the 4 channel amp bridged to 2 channels, and one channel on each voice coil? Are you 100% sure all wiring is correct? Do you have the phase right? What about your ground?

Honestly---I'd look at the install over just adding more equipment. I'm willing to bet your problem is there.
