I am looking for a cheap in dash, 1/2 DIN EQ that has a cool looking spectrum analyzer display. The only one that I know of was some Sentrek unit, but they're hard to find. I want to take the display out and mount in behind some tinted plexi in my dash over my source unit. Anyone have any ideas?

You could try to find one of the old kenwood 1/2 din DSP units, they had a pretty decent sized display. Just dont actually use it in the system!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

Happen to know what model number that was Audiophyle, for the old Kenwood?? I don't plan on using it at all. I may just simple run my sub output through it defeated to give it some signal. If it does pick up noise, the sub won't notice it as bad as the highs anyhow. More observations are welcome.

I really dont remember the model number, sorry. I do remember that it was the only 1/2 din DSP they put out. The display was about 3" wide and the entire height of the unit. It may be smaller than your looking for. The idea of the display form the aiwa radio is a good one, however, you'd need to find someone somewhere willing to remove it and it's associated circuitry and integrating it into your car. Probably not impossible... just need to find the right technician for the job!

or, if you'v e got the room for full DIN, and the money, you could use a coustic RTA-33. then you'd have an RTA and it has an RCA input in the back for use as a spectrum analyser.

I found a Sentrek 820 in perfect condition for $20. I bought it. Now I am going to try to remove the display and attach it to the unit with a ribbon cable so that I don't have to put it in my dash. I may try to take off the whole face and see if the crossover and sub volume knob can be moved too. It should be fun.
