Can you just get one the has only like 5 or 10 or around there? just get one that has the main bands? Do you realy need a huge amount of EQ like more then 10 to 30 I see people that have like two 30 band EQ's.How much EQ do you need 1/3 oct or is there more type's of EQ's?

Similar to anothers qustion, What is you intension for having an equilizer? The larger 30 band eqs are primarily used for tuning a vehicle for the RTA section of a competition. Some people do use 30 band eq's to tune for sound quality but I think is is a little excessive in most cases and extremely hard to adjust. If your just looking for a little control or maybe some adjustability over your subs a dash eq should do the job.

do you need a lot of EQ bands? NO!! You should always strive to build your system so it needs NO eq, NO processors of ANY kind whatsoever, the exception being x-overs!

But for RTA it would be EXTREMELY difficult to compete without one, almost impossible, especially in a car. You definitely need an eq with at least 30 bands per channel for RTA. I agree, for listening probably 5-15 is good. If all cd's were recorded by the same person, in the same studio maybe we could do without eq's for listening enjoyment.

Many winning competitors are running 30band eq's for rta only, switching them out of the circuit for SQ judging. OH, and they only run one channel for rta!
