Does anyone own this unit or have any of you used or auditioned it? I am considering purchasing one, but I'd like to get some user feedback on it. It has a subwoofer level output control on it, which is vital to me as the Nakamichi 45z headunit that I will be using does not have this. It also has a 2-way 24dB/octave Linkwitz Riley crossover, which I will use instead of the built in crossovers on my amplifiers. Basically the object of my concern is the built in HDE (High Definition Expansion) processor. It has a variable control that's supposed to widen and raise your soundstage. Luckily this feature can be turned on and off, but I'm hoping it works as advertised without ruining the sound. I read a review on this unit on Car Audio Review magazine's website, and they had alot of good things to say about it. Anyone?

My friend just beat me to buying this piece he is still playing around with it but it seems to be a pretty cool piece. He did however change out the factory crossover to a 33hz crossover and it works great! I give this one a thumbs up! [Smile]

Audio Control makes some great products, but I have never been impressed with the HPX. It made the sound fuzzy sounding and let alot of midrange sounds through to the subs.
I'm getting mixed reviews...I dunno yet heh.

I had this piece installed in my last car. It allowed my to hook up my Nomad Jukebox and have 6GB of MP3s on tap.

I also liked the MVC and the sub knob, as my head unit in the Buick did not have 3 pre outs. I don't think it made anything fuzzy sounding, but it did seem to introduce some more resonant notes in the car. I did not have access to an RTA to test that theory out though. But as you mentioned the expansion is adjustable and defeatable.

I am not using it in my new car and I believe I have all the pieces (manuals inc.) PM or email me and we can talk.

I think we're trying to figure out what the hell the expansion does exactly, and if it is worth a damn... (or I am anyway)

Expansion can be a beautiful thing, if you:

A. Have enough expander bands
2. Have enough amplifier power
D. Have enough patience to get the expander tuned right.

Expanders will absolutely tell you how much headroom your amplifiers have...

I used it on the MP3s but I didn't like it on CDs. It seemed to do "too much" when I had it on when I played CDs.

Thank you for an honest opinion hehe...well at least now I know it actually does something...maybe I'll just spend my money on a better crossover instead (6xs maybe?)
