Ok, all I need is an active crossover that is continuously variable AND is a true 3 way: HI, MID, LOW.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Looking for good SQ...any advice will help...
Possible: Phoenix Gold MX3i US Amps-US-x3 (no lpl knob) Sony-XEC1000 Kenwood-KEC301, KEC600 Coustic-XM5e(heard bad things aboutSQ, lplknob) MTX-RTX03A (12db slope, 4gang, .05thd, 95S/n) Pioneer-CD635, need more info on...
Not Possible: PPI-EPX233 not enough info on website, PPIx3-hi, hi, low) IDQ-(insane crossover, for fanatics only) Audio Control-not variable(looks like a pain in the ass) Xtant-doesn't make any actives Kicker-x3i(not true 3 way-Hi, Hi, low) Rockford-PunchX(not true 3 way-Hi, Hi, low) Cadence-QXR7(not true 3 way-Hi, Hi, low) Zapco-Only makes a 2way Boston Acoustic-Doesn't make processors JL Audio-doesn't make processors Alpine(none on website)

Are you sure I can't interest you in an Image Dynamics IDX 24. Have one for sale! You hardly need to be a fanatic to use one of these, afterall, aren't we all fanatics?

I would look into the Zapco SLX-4 true 3way and incredible build quality. Also, their SX-SL is also a true 3 way with a 5 band EQ thrown in for good measure. Both of these are quite a bit more money than anything ese on your list but all incorpoarate uncompromised build quality...listen to me I sound like a damned brochure.
Of the other ones on you list I like the Sony, Coustic and MTX for the ease of use. They all have about the same level of build quality and should fit the bill nicely.

Say, are you going to keep that POS crossover, if not you should sell it to me really cheap just to get rid of it . Nah, it is a sweet crossover and I would use it if I were you- even though I really want one and the brushed face would look good with my new amps...
I think that you will like the Veritas- god I hope so since I talked so much about them...

Well Winslow, I amp probably going to sell the POS because I amp trying to build a very simple systm now. Just one amp with built in X over (24db), horns, mids, sub(s). I am usless with all the gains and x over points.
If I dont like the horns, I hold you personally responsible, and you don't want to be on my bad side! haha j/k

Do any active true 3way xover's have sub inputs? I'd love to maintain the ability to turn the sub amp on off at the HU...or is the little knob just as good?

My Linear Power has two inputs, but being a dash mounted crossover and having a knob for the sub, mids, and highs you really don't need two inputs. I like having the knobs right there so I can fiddle with things as I drive.
You should love those Veritas...had another convert this weekned. Swore horns could never sound good, heard my car, amd changed his mind.

Good to hear Winslow, I couldn't believe my ears when I firt fired up my CD 2's. Unreal. Im sure I will be even more impressed with my Veritas. BTW what frequency and slope did you crossover your horns at Jason. I know you told me already but I forgot.
Oh and I emailed you about my IDX, I think I have finally found an amp that has a good enough xover built in, only problem is that it isn't even out yet.

My horns are about 800 hertz and up with the 12 dB slopes, I didn't have a RTA and that was the closest mark on the crossover. Now I have access to a RTA and getting 24 dB slopes I can run them lower.
Build the protection circuit too, I think they sound even better with it- and they protect the drivers...

What do you mean by the protection circuts Winslow? How can a speaker sound better with a protection circut? Isn't it just for "protection"? Any other secrets or hints you can lend? Thanks again for the input.

You'll see the parts when you get the horns- a couple of caps and resistors...I think that the secret is the resistor, something like Richard Clark uses to make solid state amps sound like tube amps. I could be wrong and my ears were fooled, but I think that is what it is.
Did I say buy a dash pad yet? I tried a makeshift dash pad this weekend and it helped out some too, actually was a noticible difference. Probably the best $30 that you will spend.

That is the first thing Matt Bordgart at ID told me to buy for my car when I had my CD 2's. He said it would help raise the soundstage considerably, because it eliminates all the reflections inbetween the top of the dash and the bottom of the winshield. I better get one soon and give it a try, if Matt says it will work, I am sure it will.
Also you said somewhere that Bill @ Veritas recomends using the Accuvolts on the horns. Is this to lower the impedance or to raise it? I can't imagine why you would want to lower it any, with the horns being so efficient already, they would be unbelievably loud!!! Any idea's what they are for? Thanks.

Matt is right on about the dash pads, I don't have one but WILL be geting one very soon.
The Accumatches lower the impedence to the amp, but the main thing it does is act like an output transformer (which that is exactly what it is) on an amp- Bill says that it will make the horns sound even more smoother. He went on a long explaination of how and why it worked, so if you want a really detailed answer I would give him a call.

it does work. i was in matt's toyota trunk and he just threw a sweater on the dash and that instantly raised the stage considerably. it was like magic!!

WOW Ace, You got to sit in Matts truck??!! Tell me what he uses for equipment and how it is all set up!!! I need to know!! I bet it sounds unreal!

Now why would Matt use the CD 1E's? Must be some secretive highly modified prototype horn of some sort. Does he use the mini's or the V.2? Hmm...
