hello. COuld you guys tell me if it's possible to play non-alpine MD disc changer through Alpine HU? You know Alpine doesn't make any MD disc changer. Please let me know how i can hook one up to HU. Also, is FM mod the only way to play sound through? How do you get around it? I hate FM MOD because it degrades sound quality

No, you can not run any other MD-changer with an Alpine HU. But Alpine MD-changers are available in Japan. I think you can order this via internet.

Thank you very much BassSecurit. I really appreciate for your help. I was just wondering if you could explain to me why it wouldn't work. I thought with FM mod, you can play anything you like whether it's CD changer or md changer. Well, does it have to do with alpine's ai-net thing? I am very curious to know the details. Thank you in advance. Take care

I think that it is a software problem, because every company is adressing the bus a little bit different. So you can have the plug and wire but they can not understand each other. You know every company would like to sell their own product so every company has it's own software and adress code. Hope you can follow me because my english isn't very good.

Hey Eurostereo, that would make things way too easy if we could mix and match components from different companies. Unfortunately, the languages are different, much like Apples & IBM's. Although a lot use the same type connectors (like Sony & Alpine, or Kenwood's & Clarion's 13 pin connectors) they don't communicate properly with the bus controller. The only MD changer I'm aware of that Alpine makes is the MDA-5051 which I've only seen available in Australia and Europe (and possibly Japan). I've seen it for sale for $600 over the net. The 5048 was available briefly in the States and is a single MD player add on to the CVA-1000 and the CDA-7949 only. According to Alpine, they will not work with other Ai-net decks. If you decide to use Pioneer instead, I'm selling my Pioneer 6 MD changer, which is also only available in Japan.
Good Luck, Brad Marks a/v1
