I bought a deh-p8000 last April. The display will switch colors back and forth. It is very distracting at night. Is their any way to fix it? I have talked to the store I got it from and they said all of them do it. Also My front rca's cut in and out. I have traced the problem to a short in the pigtail. I s theri any place I can get one from and just plug a new one in. I have taken apart many hu's over the years and pioneer just plugs theri tails into the boards. Also I get lousy antennae reception . All the stations around me are like 50 miles away. The stock hu got better reception. Were is the trimmer pot on this thing so I can tweak it a bit. The antennae is factory. Any advice would be helpful.

I think, if I were you, I'd be making a call to pioneer and asking them for an RMA number to have it serivced on. The lights changing colors is a bad thing yanno. The store telling you they all do it really means "we could care less what the hell you say, we have your money, take care of it yourself". And that is exactly what I would do, and not return to the store again, if possible.

The store I talked about, I have worked their about a year and a half. I still work theri part time doing installs during the weekend. Every one that I have put in does the same thing. The diplay switchs from background being black and the graphics being colored, to the background being colored and the graphics black. I have not been able to get a patern on it. But it seems like it happens once a minute. IT is very distracting at night. the dang warranty ran out on it in April. But I might try to sneak it in. hehe I would of sent it in earlier but I need to find something to put in its place. Can't drive without my Metalica!!

Dude, I've got the 8000 too. I thought I had a very annoying problem as well, that is until I read through the set-up in the manual. The display will go into reverse video about every 12 seconds unless you hit (can't remember exactly) button 5 or 6 to cancel it when you first power up the deck. This will prevent the annoying display change. I believe it's meant as more of a 'demo', as buttons 5 & 6 control these two functions as I mentioned, when you first power up. Recheck your manual for exact procedure, or email me and I'll check mine again, and run you through it.

Later,

I took it out of the demo mode when I first got it. The background and the objects alternate between black and color. Like the buildings will be green one minute, then it changes so the buildings are black and the background is green.

Ryan, If you take it out of Feature Demo mode, it's still in Reverse Demo. Buttons 5 & 6 control these. You probably pushed button 6 which takes you out of Feature Demo mode. Button 5 takes you you of Reverse Demo. Read pg 6 of your manual and it will explain this better. Again, email me if you have any questions you need answered quickly, as I'm not able to check the site often.

Yup, I checked it out again. I didn't turn the reverse demo off. I like it alot better. Now if I can get those pesky rca's fixed. Which do you guys prefer pigtails or jacks on the back for the rca connections. I prefer jacks on the back myself.

thanks guys

Glad that helped. I know my stomach sank when I hastilly hooked my deck up and noticed it was doing that. I couldn't believe I spent so much for such an annoying display! Then, like most other Americans, I decided to read the manual afterwards and caught that demo page.
What happened to your RCA's? They get pinched or something? I too prefer having jacks on the back instead of the pigtails. Having pigtails for the antenna plug and the IP-bus plug's a pain in the a$$ too! Gets somewhat busy back there. Overall, I really like the deck. Never skips. What else do you have to go with the deck? I want to find out how well the voice control works.

I think the rca's got damaged when I let it hang by them out of the dash during one of those late night eq swapping sessions or the great cd changer install. Man my neighbors hate me. I do my best work at night. I finally got that 12 disc changer in the center console of my Ranger truck. The arm rest has not broke yet from all of the metal I had to cut out of it for room. I have not personaly messed with the voice conttrol. But I have heard it works good. ALso I think the antennae wire got pinched. I have some friend Pioneer players laying around I can probaly get the antennae lead from.

Hey Kenny, I'm in the military. I got the minidisc changer through the base exchange catalog. One of the benefits of ordering from them is that a lot of the stuff is only available overseas. Like the minidisc changer. It was $468 after the customs charge. I looked there again and it's no longer available from them
You can email me if you have any other questions about it.

Ryan, that sucks about the pigtails. If you unplug the connector inside the deck, you should then be able to meter through them to see if you have a short or open. One thing you could do is cut the defective pigtail off, and solder splice a new wire on to it with a nice RCA end on it.
I also have to agree with you about best work done at night, and on the comment about Metallica!

I know everyone has there own opinion, but I used to like Metallica, but can't stand them now. And that's all I have to say about that.
