I'm thinking about getting my windows tinted and the dealer said that the metalic tinting is the highest quality, blocks heat better and lasts longer than the dyed tint. Is this all true? How much does it interfere with FM reception? He said that you might lose a station 10 miles sooner when heading out of town. Is this what others have experienced? Thank you.

I think you have run into a salesmans that is feeding you a line. Unless you have a newer car with the antenna in the back window, it is very slim that you will have troubles. Why did he say it would lose reception? Unless you plan on tinting your antenna I doubt you have anything to worry about.

i agree too...whats the antenna have to do with the windows.....nothing...the signals and stuff pass through wires in the car they dont need to go through windows

You may lose a little bit of reception with dark "metallic" tint over an antenna that's embedded in the windwhield. You do lose some reception for radar detectors (Don't ask me how I know...), so it makes sense that FM would get weakened a tad too.

In the case of a car with the windshield embedded antennae you can loose some reception with metallic tint. The rear window incorporated antennae can loose some reception with tint too. A radar detector can also loose some reception through metallic tint as well as a cell phone being operated inside the car. Attenuation varies from 1 to 3 db which is often to small to worry about but it does occur. I purposefully mounted my radar detector on the dash because it wasn't doing as well clamped to a visor and recieving through the brow tint on my windshield. Whip/retractable antennaes are not effected by tint. 10 mile range change is also an exageration in vehicles that would be effected. sorry for the grammar Posts: 926 | From: Sugarland, Tx | Registered: May 1999
