I am an old timer at burning and playing cd's (been having a burner since 92 when it was $2100!!) anyway, many cd player s have problems playing them. older cd players (5 years or older) sometimes do. I have had bad luck with sony and kenwood, except their highest end. After talking to a few engineers, I have learned that this is related to the decoder chip used and the laser in the cd player. Sony for instance supposedly uses very good decoder chips, but their lasers are weak in all but their best units (have heard that this has improved in xplode line, but cannot say for sure). Kenwood and some alpines have issues with the decoding chip. I ahve also learned that the color of the cd used has something to do with it. Many cd players cannot read bright blue cd's at all, (such as verbadim) the next better would be green which many can read (3m tdk and memorex are mostly like this) the best is the gold back cd's which most if not all cd players can read. Oh, pioneer has also the best mechanisim for reading cd-r's they are the only company that not only all of their cd-players play them, but they advertise that they gurantee compatibility with them! (pretty cool of them if I do say so my self) Blaupunkt has also started openly supporting cd-r's on their latest models. sorry about the rambeling nature of this post, i was typing as I thoght of things. there is a lot of info on this at www.goldenhawk.com

I have seen this problem a couple of times and mostly it had to do with the quality of cd's people were buying to make their copies on. The cheapies sometimes don't have very good QC especially when it comes to the thickness of the discs. I've seen these faulty fat boy discs jam up in many a cd player. Besides that the only other problem I'm aware of is playing them in players that were made before CD-R formats were popular enough to embed the decoding language into the players. In other words....BUY THE BURNER KYLE!

Could it just be one of those stick on labels that some people use. I know that one of my friend's has a cd with a label that is wrinkled and thick. Maybe that is all it is.

I have been hearing a lot of complaints about the stick-on labels making the cd to thick to read as well as insert/eject. My advice is buy good media and a decent burner. Do not use the labels...

Well the only problems I heard of were from a while back. Getting errors when a burnt cd was being played.
Could this be a cd that isnt "weighted" right? Like someone puts a sticker or something on one side and it dont spin true. Or just a faulty made disk...

Ok guys, thanks for in input, I was specifically asking about problems with just the CD thickness, no labels, and their compatability with Alpines mainly, because A) That's what I've got and B) That's what I've heard of problems with.

I have found no trouble with cdr's getting stuck in a stereo, i've never heard of that happening before. Some cheap cd's for example Princo, if u had ever heard of them aren't too good for audio, they are a silver/blue colour. On the HU side of things, friends of mine have had trouble playing cdr's on kenwood and sony HU's, i have a Carrozeria/Pioneer stacker, and i've never had a trouble with cd'rs on it. I even had a friend who wrote an audio cd, when writing the Table of contents it ****ed up, and would not work in any cd player, but it worked in the stacker in my car, shows how good pioneer is, its da bomb
