I recently purchased an Alpine 7840 and was wondering if Alpine makes a compatible MD player that can be hooked into the Ai-net bus ?

I read somewhere that they do make one, but it's only available in Japan right now.

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Thomas.

Alpine has 3 MD players: MDM-7741 (don't think it has AI-Net though), MDA-7755 (your best choice), MDA-W750 (double din) Hope this helps ya out.

The MDA-5048 was the only add-on MD player / sound field processor, but it was a 99 model so finding one could be difficult.

Thanks guys.

Stryker, those 3 suggestions are all HU's. I'm looking for an MD add on.

The MDA-5048 looks good. MD and sound processor in one. Now if only I can find one at a reasonable cost .......

Thanks again guys,

Thomas.

Actually, Alpine has a newer model than the 5048. It's the MDA-5051 which is a 3 Mini Disc indash changer. Unfortunately the only place I've seen it available from was in Australia & Europe. Also, the 5048 ONLY worked when paired with the CVA-1000, or the 7949 (and probably now the 1005). It may not work with other newer decks, so even if you had connections in either country that could get it for you, you may not have the right deck for it. I spoke with an Alpine rep last month and was told they are holding off on MD sales in the US because it just doesn't have a good customer response. Sony pretty much screwed it all up by holding on to the technology too long. Also, now MP3 is hitting the market and may sweep MD under the rug. We'll see what happens. I personnally like MD.
