What does everyone think of Rockford's head units? The new ones and the old ones, especially the 8140 and 8230.

I still owe 100 bucks on my 8220, but when I can get the money (next week) and get it put in, I'll let you know how it sounds. BTW, the sales guy said it was on sale because they are coming out with a new model series. 220 bucks for a cd unit w/remote is now bad!

You know, its sad when you can't buy anything straight out. I make payments on my payments!!

I can hardly discern (we are talking long listening times with VERY familiar music)between the 8230 in my board and the Nak CD-40z beside it. To me that makes it a damn nice head.

only problem is that it looks bad. Now a days, why can't companys make good looking head units, like the Kenwood X's and the Clarions. The Nak is simple, which if that's what you want is nice, but not my cup of tea. Hey Dukk, do you have a CD45z in the board, how close is the RF to that??

We don't stock the CD-45z. BUT, we used to have a home MB-1 and I compared it to the MB-4 we had at the same time and I couldn't tell the difference. People can wax poetic and spurt specs all they want but most DACs sound alike, especially when the two being compared are of good quality.

Installed my 8220 yesterday. It sounds pretty good. I thinks it lacks some of the clarity of my Clarion, but its not bad. I am not using the speaker outputs on my deck, so I cannot tell you how the internal amp sounds.

The deck has a few items that need changed, though. When you are listening to a cd and turn the car off... you turn the car back on and the cd starts over from the beginning!! Come on Rockford, get with the program ... literally!!

Also the display isn't viewable from certain angles, and the shiny face surface causes you to see yourself in the display more than the time.

This is my first experience with a car stereo remote, but if this is as sensitive as they get, they can just keep it.

I know it sounds like I hate it, but I am very picky. Overall its a very nice deck for $220. I appreciate the filter on the power AND ground wire in the harness. Also, you can attenuate the output level on the summed subwoofer output from the deck. Pretty cool.

I'll admit that the current remote bites. This is too bad since the last generation remote was awesome. Too bad it isn't compatible with the new decks...

It turns out I am more picky than I thought. That and I was tired of re-playing my cds after I turned the car off. I took the deck back to the store for a refund. I was thinking about a Blaupunkt Aspen...Anyone had any experience with these?

i hate that (restarting the song when you start the engine)...

my old cheapo CD player use to do that... its not much of a problem unless 95% of the time...

boy you are picky!! hehhe j/k

your store has a very good return policy, especially since its been installed....
i wonder what the shop is going to do with it..

i actually really like the new RF decks.. i think they look stylish and simple... i hate those flashy looking ones... but all my friends think the flashier the better

I'm still running the older gear 8120/8601.
Sound is very good, reliable, simple and
easy to use. And I like the features.
I've won a lot of SQ shows with this setup.
It's retired this year of course.

I recently bought and installed a 8230 into my Mazda. I had a listen to the 99 Iasca test disc and as track 24 "Alone Together" faded to zero there were strange harmonic noises to be heard. I removed the unit and hooked it up to the home amplifier and it still made the funny noises at full volume on the quiet ending. On the zero bit track 26 there was no audible noise.
I returned the unit to the shop and they exchanged it for another. This unit was nice and quiet and has no noise whatsoever, so it seems that I was unlucky enough to get a dud the first time.
By the way a 8230 costs $600 bucks here in New Zealand ,that's about $300 US.
I like the sound quality and easy to use controls on the rockford heads. They are easy to use while driving.
