I'm looking at buying a new HU for next season, the old one I have is a kenwood Z919, it's output is 2.5v. I'm looking into a 4v or better HU, so far I'm thinking about these

I have the Excelon 792 and 492. Both are great decks. If you look at last years models, the 692 and 792 were great decks. If you are looking at this year's models, get the KDC-X693 this thing is awesome. I had a waiting list setup for people when this deck first came out. It's a fantastic and reliable deck.
I sell Kenwood(and Excelon), Pioneer(Premier), and we just stopped carrying JVC Arsenal. We quit the jvc's because the failure rate was rediculous. The KDAR480, we had a 100% failure rate. The KDAR880, we had a 75% failure rate. I owned both of these decks. Sold them as "The same deck I have in my personal vehicles"....and then almost every one had to be sent in for service.

Dav, I'm shocked!! all this time I though it was a 4v Hu now to find out its only 1.5. I got another one that is 2.2v that is my backup but now it will be my main one until I get a 4 or 5v unit. and before someone suggests "Alpine" I wanted it but $250 for a unit I'll only use 3 or 4 times out of the year doesn't balance to well.

D-Bass, the mute, does the 693 have a hard pause/mute or like alpine, have a mute that rolls in and build up? that is one of the things I want.

it has pause. it also has 20dB attenuate that rolls out. these are both available on the included remote
when i use them, i attenuate the music find the track start the track and hit pause. then unpause and immediately hit (de)attenuate-- it then rolls up the volume automatically

we actually don't have any left in stock right now. I sold them all. Honestly, I wish I had the 693. It's better than my 792 from the prior year and also $100 cheaper. and we've been having trouble getting ahold of more from Kenwood. or maybe my boss just isn't paying the bill. who knows.
The actual model number is KDC-X693.

there is also the 993. It's 100% the same, but has bluetooth built in. not sure if you want that for your spl car, but it might make trips to shows a little easier if you drive there.

Well, they didn't have any of the ones I listed in the store so....I picked up an Alpine cda-9884Ji. I have a question, the japanese version says its 4v but the american version says its 2v. Minus the radio freqs, are there any other differences? If this thing is 2v, its going back. I already have a Pioneer DEH-340 that's 2.2v + my HFEQ thats an 4-Band Equalizer With +18dB Variable 9-Volt RMS Line-Driver Preamp Output - Master Volume & Subwoofer Volume Control. http://www.hifonicsusa.com/Hifonics_HXFR_HFEQ_Crossovers.html
well the rest isn't important but I think I got 4v going to the amps inputs. I just really want that smooth volume increase instead of the straight pause.
UPDATE: I contacted Alpine Japan and they explained everything. My unit is a 4v unit. each country has different settings so, I should be good now! thanks for all the help. Now on to part 2, re-doing the battery setup. Rats nest, here I come!

First, test with the New unit and see how that goes. Second, change the battery wiring setup, test after. Third. work on the baffle.
most difficult part is working in the cold again! and its getting pretty cold here at night.
