Whats up AF, i run into another problem, this time with my Pioneer HU im getting a hissing/whine & a minor popping noise with the car on or off. i've checked the basic stuff (wiring, ect), i even checked the rca's with my ipod and i get no hissing noise what so eva. i need your help AF, should i ground my HU rca's to the HU itself or ground the rca's to the car chassis or send it to the shop?

try grounding the rca shield on the hu, to the bolt in the center-back of the deck. try it in a different car. if the same problem exists, send it in for repair...with a detailed note explaining all the steps already taken to be sure it's in the unit

every pioneer head unit that i have had on an amp has had lots of noise, i ususaal cure this by grounding the rrca's at the head unit to the chassis ground of the car.

i "DID" sell pioneer but only for the older people that want a cheap headunit with no amp. pioneer did a STUPID and fused the ground. so when it pops it searches for a ground and the best one is ur rca's.
PIONEER headunit = GARBAGE
i am sorry i dont like to bash any brand but i have had countless problems over the yrs with this and they havent fixed it...

another good hint to help prevent this, always plug your RCA's in last when installing an amplifier. that way the amp doesn't try to ground through the rca's and blow the picofuses in the deck

thanks guys for the help, but ive been using pioneer for years now and IMO, i think if you know how to fix it, it's not to big of a problem..i think i made my mistake hot swapping..thats why they want you to go to a professional pioneer installer.

by fix it, do you mean tearing the deck completely apart, and soldering resistors in where the picofuses were?

i fixed it kind of like the picture at top^^, i bought two 16g wire with fuse holders 10amp fuse, (to be safe), grounded them to the back of the HU & to the rca's, each wire has its own screw in back of the unit..by the way all my feedback, hiss and whine is 98% gone with the car started and off.

multiple amps, same thing. always hook up ground and power before you plug in the rca's. mostly seems to be a problem when using pioneer decks.

you may have other issues going on with the system. unplug the rca's from your amp. is the noise still present?

it could be the radio is just shot. it happens to pioneers where the rca's just go bad and you get noise. try swapping decks, maybe it'll go away. try measuring the resistance between the ground, the chassis, and the rca shield ends

I had the same problem with my prs880 deck.Ignition noise, ground loop noise, more noise with the blower motor running, ect. I tried grounding the rca's to the deck=same noise, ran the deck ground to the battery=same noise, ran the power to the deck off the battery=same noise. I ended up running a set of shielded rca's over the seats to the amp, noise went away. I rerouted the exsisting rca's down the opposite side of the car=same noise. I removed the exsisting rca's and installed 2 pairs of shielded rca's=no more noise!

I had the same problem but ten times worse then I ever heard. going from 0-1 on volume it would burp though the subs. then one amp went up in smoke. then if the volume was on 1 it would send a test tone though my woofers like a full on burp. so i grounded my rcas and that fixed everything.
