i have a jvc head unit and it has front a rear preamp outputs i have my amp on the rear set and i went into the setting and turned it on so that it is for a sub which now gives me sub level control and all that. well i like to keep the regual bass control down low like 0 or +1 so that i dont blow the stock speakers. well i put on a song turn it up loud and turn the sub level all the way up it hits but not very hard only way to get the subs to slam is if i turn the the bass for the stock speakers up to + 6 then it slams but my stock speakers dont like that. is there something i can do so that i dont have to turn the bass up on the stockers?

you could add bassblockers to the mids/highs, but that will reduce the voltage they receive. or add a mids/highs amp that has a highpass filter. Do you have the sub control on the deck all the way up to 8? I usually keep mine at 6, and bass about -2...and I get plenty of sound. cranking all the settings on the deck is just going to add distortion. you could always adjust the gain and filters on your sub amp. you just have to match what is coming from the deck

I've always ran my decks at the minimum bass settings as possible. Like right now I have a Pioneer and the bass goes from -6 to +6 and I have it set on -6 and compensate for this by turning up the sub out and also the gain on the amp. My sub out is still set at -1 but there is no reason to turn it up louder than that. I have never blown a mid or high speaker in my car by opperating this way. I also run the mids and highs in my car off of an external amp and that also helps to control the speakers. I don't know if your deck has a front high pass or not, but I would suggest turning that on to to help the speakers from receiving bass notes that could damage them.
