What do you think - what functions should perfect HU have? High output voltage, fast search, pause, fast volume adjust? Or something else. I mean headunit which can help to get maximum decibels. For example I have Pioneer DEH-6800MP, it have 2v sub outputs, pretty nice volume adjust (comperative to Pioneer P88), very good display, but don't have pause button. During burp I can be inside the car to adjust volume (cranking up, don't pause/unpause), but only in situation if my result is less than 149db.

My friend changed pioeer deh-88p to low-end Sony and had 1db rise, back change finished with 1db drop. So, that's why I decided to ask such question on this forum. What can affect a result so much?

S/N ratio can affect spl. The higher, the better. Maybe your friend gained a db because Sony uses a processor in all of their decks with a higher s/n ratio than that of the high end pioneer. I know I gained .3db when I took out my Kenwood KDCmp732 and put in my Alpine 9847. Which is funny too because the Alpine had 2 volt preamp outputs to the Kenwood's 4 volts, but now I'm running my oldschool Pioneer Deh-6500 and have dropped .1-.2db from the Alpine. Oh well I do like the features in the Pioneer better.

the only deck i ever found that was better then my alpine 9847, was the eclipse 8053, with the 8 total set of pre amp outs @ 8v, or hook up the balanced line adapter for 16v,i have found it to be the loudest deck ive ever tested, and ive tested alot
