I was just wondering which companies offer head units with a copper chasis. Also, who used to make them?

well you do have the denons, nakamichis, macintoshes and i guess the denonford..
not too sure on the others, though i believe the rockford 8250 had the copper chassis, so that would mean selected denons, like the Z1, would also have the copper chassis.

oh yeah, I found somebody sellind an Alpine 7909J online which has the copper case. I think only the JDM ones had the copper.

it wasn't the copper chassis that made them better...it was what's in it. The copper chassis was to help cure some of the oscillation those burr brown opamps and DAC's were prone too.

nakamichi's did not come with them. However they did make an outboard Burr Browned DAC with digial input way back when. Only offered them overseas though. they do pop up on ebay italia from time to time for relatively cheap $80 - $100, but most don't ship to the US. *tear*
If you can find one (either dac101 or the dac111), and bypass the onboard DAC. it might yield better results than the old Sony C90's and C900's.
i only mention that^^ because the price tag on pretty much everything listed is just shy of insane.
