I know of the kenwood and Aiwa. Do any other companies make a CD player capable of reading a CD with songs written on it in MP3 format? I don't want the RF one with the cards, just something i can burn MP3's in MP3 format onto a CD and play them. I am not to thrilled about the brands I've seen, Kenwood and Aiwa. I would love to hear of someone like Alpine. Sony, or Clarion doing this with a high voltage RCA deck with 3 sets of RCA's.
any other info?
thanks for any reply,
Mike Miguez

There is a company who recently came out with a MP3 player with an actual hard drive mounted in the dash. You can pull the hard drive out of the dash and plug straight to your computer to transfer music. Its cool but personally I would wait for them to fix some of the bugs.

I think I just saw that in the CA&E today. It says it can hold 1000 cds worth of music. That sounds pretty cool to me, Probably expensive though. Might want to check it out.

i bought a kenwood z919 and it has 3 sets of preouts -front,rear, and non fading. i think the head unit is really good and there are a crap load of options on it like a tv tuner and a bunch of other stuff. the kenwood website doesnt even list close to all of what this unit can do

did someone say Alpine? Oh yes! my favorite!
Any info on the specifics of the Alpine head-units that can play CD's with songs encoded in MP3 format along with all the other functions of a normal head-unit?
thanks for the input guys,

alpine, clarion.... why would you want your expensive deck to play mp3's??? the sound quality of mp3's are poor at even the best bit rate. any of you ever burn a cd of mp3's and try to listen to them? if you have any sort of quality equipment, you would realize right off the bat that mp3's sound like crap! the compression on mp3's destroys the sound quality. if you want sq and custom music... try a mini disc player... mp3's are to cd's, what tapes were to records... a step backwards for music. -richard

hey mike... according to the pamphlet that alpine gave out here are some info on it... it has... 1. Bass Engine Pro which includes: digital time correction, 7-Band digital EQ, 6-position 24dB/oct. HP/LP Digital Crossovers, subwoofer level control, subwoofer Phase adjustment(0 or 180 degrees) 2. 45W x 4 3. XM radio ready 4. Detachable face 5. 4 volt preout 6. multicolor display with spectrum analyzer 7. alpine high precision DP-ST CD transport 8. DHE (digital harmonics enhancer) which is suppose to make the mp3s sound better
and it is suppose to play CD-R and CD-RW hope it helps

this sounds like what i want. I've burned CD's from music downloaded on the internet, and could only tell the difference when the song was recorded at a bad sampling rate or just a piss-poor recording. Did you find the info for the 7878 on the website? Last time I checked they didn't have the new products on there yet.
thanks for the help,

it looks like alpine has a newer version now than when i checked it out last, but still no 7878 that I can find. Thanks for the help. I wish someone could scan a copy of the part of the brochure about the 7878 and post it on the net.
