While looking for a replacement hu, i found a couple kenwoods that i liked for a good price. The kdc-x491 and the kdc-x591.

The 491 has a usb port built in on the front to connect and ipod, but from what i could tell it won't control the ipod.

The 591 will controll the ipod and all the connections are in the rear. I like that cus it'll keep it clean. I looked at the cable that's used to connect the ipod and it's just a normal ipod cable with an aux plug added.

Does anyone know what pins the aux plug are wired to? I have ipod cables already and would like to just make it myself, if i can find the correct wires to connect the aux plug to.

If anyone here has one that they could test with a multimeter i would really appreciate it.

Here's a link to what the cable looks like. http://images.cardomain.net/products/ken/KENKCAIP200A.jpg

Just use the phatnoise software and it will do the same thing using only the i-pod usb cable

But then i'd have to buy the phatbox deal to hook up to though right? I can't afford to buy any extra items right now. already buyins more subs/amp, and now my hu got stolen last night so i need to keep the price down as much as possible.

I should have included that in the original post. Thank you for the suggestion though. I will keep it in mind for the next system.

The radio comes with phatnoise media manager. It is so you can make mp3 cd and flash drives that are easier to use in the radio.

It makes voice prompts and you can listen by artist album etc. You can change ordering type on the fly in radio.

After you add your music to the ipod you plug it in and let phatnoise find and tag the music for you.

Plug your ipod usb cable into the radio usb and go to usb on radio.
