ok i had some noise before and never really fixed it....now i added my second 3Sixty this weekend and its time i fixed it for good. A few things i did made it worse...i have it narrowed down to the deck because of the fact when i unplug the RCA's completely from it but with the rest of the system hooked up and on, the noise goes away. I hooked my IPOD directly up to the same RCA's and i have no noise. IT HAS to be coming from the deck. Ok enough jibber-jabber.....does my deck fall into the catagory of decks that the RCA ground could be burnt? I remember a few people talking about that not too long ago. Is it something i can get to easy or should i send it in....

X10 What sucks is i had to put it all together knowing i didnt conquer the problem. Im so sick of trying i dont know what else to do. Ive ran brand new RCA's, Grounds, and even a better positive for the deck thinking that could be it. I tried everything and nothing works.
Back to the drawing board tomorrow MAYBE. Im fed up with this, anyone have any ideas? No one has invented a guarenteed engine noise killer yet?

I went through like 2-3 pionner 7700's and I think TPRJ has had the grounding problem with his pionner, as well as many others ive read about online. I tryed everything from running a 8g ground/power directly from the battery, and nothing helped. I picked myself up a $100 Best Buy special panasonic, and havent had a single problem (other then skipping)

Power the deck up and start the vehcle. Touch the shield of the RCA to the chassis of the deck. Noise go away? If so, it's a common problem with most Pioneer radios. I've fixed it though by soldering a wire from the base of the RCA plug to the ground wire of the radio. Look at the base of the white RCA plug. See the small section where you can get at the individual RCA conductor wires? Use a DMM and check continuity to find a shield wire and use that.

try pulling the deck/processors and run a temporary rca & remote wire over the seats to the mid/highs amp and away from the chernobyl-like power lines you've got there still get noise?

The Pioneer Avic units have a fairly inept preamp section - source output impedance is up there . . . like 1k Ohm or something anemic. The 3Sixty has balanced inputs to be most flexible with all types of source units, but the Avics can be a mother . . .
I've run into engine noise in a few 3Sixty installs myself - in every case, my issues were caused by a good ol' ground loop. The fact that you can use your iPod and get no engine noise points to this in your case too. Could it be as simple as the antenna causing all this havoc? If you've not already unplugged it, then try that - if your noise goes away, then the connection of the antenna to the fender is the source of your problems and you need to isolate that with the appropriate device - not the one pep boys sells!
If that doesn't help, then this is what I'd suggest:
1. Be sure both 3Sixty units source ground from the same location as your amplifiers. 2. Run a 10 AWG wire from this common ground to the radio. 3. Ground the Pioneer ground wire (on the radio AND the hide-away box if it has one) to this ground wire. 4. Be sure that neither chassis can be sourcing another ground by mounting to the vehicle, etc.
If the Avic has a hide-away, you may have to connect it's chassis to the in-dash chassis with a piece of 10 AWG as well. If you still have noise, then we're going to have to dig deeper . . .

BTW, you can verify the integrity of your Pioneer's preamp outputs easily. With your meter set in the ohm x 1 (or auto) scale, check for continuity between the shield of the RCA and the chassis of the unit. If you have no continuity, repeat this test but measure continuity to the ground wire on the unit. If still no continuity, the ground plating on the RCA preamp outputs has been burned up.
This typically occurs in the installs where the guy grounds his amp just any old place because this is "just temporary" . . . that ain't you! At some point, the amp has a lower reistance return path through the shield of the RCA than through it's own ground connection. Obviously, the shield of the RCA was not intended to handle 10, 20, or 30 amps of current and it opens. Then, the music stops . . .
deaf tones also has good input - could the noise be induced into the cables? Good way to find out is to do what he recommends.

WOW, hate to say it but the exact opposite of what your supposed to do is what worked (mostly) The noise is 99.9% gone. Still the slightest of slight hints when volume all the way down, i think i can "gain" it out. At 5:30am i couldnt sleep and I ended up pulling my entire sytem up front out including ALL the pioneer brains (Avic Hideaway, XM, TvTuner, Changer, EXT1 (ipod), Aux brain). Ran brand new grounds from the deck to the brains and out to the same spot the 3Sixty's are grounded. After that failed i just started trying different grounds for the 3sixty's and wouldnt ya know, the SEAT BELT bolt is the only ground that didnt have noise. Uhhh i know the seatbelt bolt is one of the worst but whatever works im with it! Oh ya and it turned out that all the work to run new grounds didnt do anything.....but changing to the seatbelt bolt in back was all i needed to do. Until i either go digital or get a new brand of deck this will have to do....its actually pretty good now!
