I want a deck that I won't need to get external crossovers with. I'm going to have Infinity Kappa 5 1/4s up front and Kappa 6 1/2s in the back. When I get an amp and box for my Kicker CompVX 12s I want to be able to filter out the lows without having to get crossovers. It's not that much of a big deal, I can get the crossovers. But which one of these decks would be better for me?

Not sure how it compares price-wise to your list, but I picked up a Kenwood KDC-X889 2 weeks ago, and it is working like a charm so far. The deck has full Xover functions built-in, along with DTA and tons of EQ options. One of the things I really like about the Excelon decks is the mute function for the internal amp....it will run your mids and highs fine to start with, once you have external amps, you shut it off, and the outputs for the RCA's get more juice...

Hmmmm, I looked at the deck and like the looks of it. Never thought of Kenwood decks before, all I've ever owned is Alpines. How do they fair compared to Alpine decks? What did you mean by will run my mids and highs fine to start with, I didn't want to get external amps for my highs anyway. I'm strongly considering this deck.

X-overs start on the KDC-4032 from kenwood this year I think. Any of the excelon will be a good choice the X990 is the only one with time aligment.

Look for a deck that will give you the most flexibility with crossover points, EQ channels, and Time alignment on each channel...if that is attainable at your price point.
IMO the H701 and touch screen that controls it is what you need Posts: 2276 | From: East | Registered: Jan 2003
