I was wondering about a source unit that will not skip (very bad at least) under high SPL levels...I have the kenwood 9015 right now and it skips with my current system that is no where near as loud as my next system is going to be...I was considering the Clarion 9675....

Yes I know about the G-tech decks...I used to have one in my old....The only reason I hsitate to get the G-shock is for the fact that the deck is ugly as hell.

I have a sony c-90 with the copper chassis and I have played hell trying to get it to skip and it never has. Even flying down a washboard like dirt road for about a mile it won't skip. Jumping railroad tracks... didn't skip. That is my experience anyway.

about the kenwood deck - how old is it? my friend used to have one, put a pair of 15" subs in his car and that deck only put up with it for about a month... after that, it'd skip with the car just idling, even on a good cd. i think the problem was a loose connection between the unit and the face

Most of a decks skipping problems usually come from the install. If the back bounces and isnt reinforced, its much more likely to skip. Also, a dirty lens will defintely add to the problem. Yeah, find a good deck, but half the battle is doing a good install and keeping it clean.

Actually, my Pioneer p-4000 somethin or other is pretty good about not skipping. I havent had a REALLY loud system yet, but the only time I ever heard it skip was when i ran over a Railroad tie lying in the ditch. Then, the whole jeep rolled upside down a couple of times. BUT, the cd player was still playing after things settled down, all-be-it a little upside down.
