A headunits ability to play CD's and transfer signal is reflected upon certain specifications like DAC's, signal voltage/impedence, etc. Are there any other factors that make some CD-players SOUND better than others?

The signal to noise ratio could make a difference. Also, and I don't think this is very often a problem, the frequency response. If it tails off bad on the top and low end it might make a difference. I don't think hardly any good CD players have this problem. A feature that might make a difference in your total system sound quality is balanced outputs. They could reduce noise that you might have without them.
